Poll question: When was the last time you had a cold/fever? |
|
I am stuck in bed with a fever and cough.. Luckily I have a web enabled Tungsten C so I can read and write to DU. So my poll question is when was the last time you had a cold or a fever?

Infection -- possibly strep.
No insurance.
Appliantology didn't work at all. I'm thinking of trying homeopathy next. Either that or bathing in pasteurized yak's urine.

The stuff I'm taking for my sinus infection is loads better than an antibiotic (no scary side effects). Apparently it doesn't work as quick as an antibiotic though. :(

16. Well, if ya wanna be serious an' all ... |
|
... homeopathy never worked for me. I guess it's the luck of the draw. I don't rule out the possibility that it has clinical use, but I never got very much from the homeopathic infection titrations or nosodes.
What helped me -- before the infection got real bad -- was a nasal irrigation device that hooks to a Water-Pik. I'd make a solution on bicarb, salt, and a little peroxide (1 tbsp of the common 3% stuff per pint of water), and it would do wonders! I've avoided using it since the bug I'm dealing with appears to be strep, and my physician says there's a real risk of driving the infection into my ears, which I'd like to avoid.
But it's springtime, and my health usually improves in May and June (and again in late fall). So over the next few weeks, I'll take the opportunity to work on what I've got. My physician, fortunately, is one of those old-school osteopaths who was holistic before holistic was cool. :)
The antibiotics, though, are murder. I gained about 50 pounds this winter, which I attribute to the antibiotic therapy, but only got about a month of relief from the infections. With that kind of reaction, I might as well take up smoking.

19. Someone else told me about putting peroxide in it... |
|
I've just started looking into homeopathy, which probably explains my exuberance over finding that it actually works. I've only tried two treatments so far.
Of course, I woke up this morning with my right nostril completely shut. :(
But I have been doing a saline irrigation--on another board someone is singing the praises of peroxide in the solution. Maybe I'll try it, I'm just afraid it'll sting.
Good luck with your health--I hope the infection doesn't spread to your ears, and you can get rid of it soon.

20. The Peroxide doesn't sting at all |
|
It fizzes a little, but it's not like soda. The taste is actually the worst part of it, but a little artificial sweetener (or stevia extract) cuts it right down.
Don't start out with full-strength 3% -- cut it down 1:10 to 1:4. You can also make some solution for a spray bottle, just don't forget the salt and/or bicarb.
Thanks, too, for your concern, but my ears have survived worse than this. I just don't want the pain to get too intense. I'm at the point where the Percocet isn't fun anymore (and I can't understand how addicts keep up with the stuff).
Maybe I'll try fasting. It's gotta be better than the Yak Urine baths! :)

6. I am just getting over a bad one |
|
Fevers, chills, I even stopped smoking for almost 24 hours. I still have an occasional cough and nothing tastes right yet. And I've posted more in the past few days than I have in a year. What else you gonna do, right?

I still have a cough and am waking up congested, I don't know if it is still residual from the infection or it is just my allergies

8. If you don't have health insurance, try this: |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 09:26 PM by Redstone
Fill an eight-ounce water glass half full of Jack Daniel's (or vodka), and the rest of the way with orange juice. Drink it, and go to bed.
The alcohol will make you sleep long enough for your body to get some repair work done, and the OJ has lots of vitamin C to help the process.
Repeat as necessary.

I've dubbed it "The Incurable Cold From Hell". Just got a prescription-upgrade to Zithramax, which I hope to god will finally cure this damned thing. Argh.

ended about Wednesday before Easter.
Bloody nuisance - and a bit more.
My normal pattern is to catch any cold within a thousand miles, but not to get it severely; this winter I've had two which consigned me to bed (very rare), one just over a week-end and the other in bed for a week (with snivelling and coughing for three weeks thereafter).
Hope you feel better soon
