But, worked out a wage garnishment plan, paid off two back years already. Too bad I'm not rich like Willie Nelson. They'd forgive me most of it.

The price working people pay, to keep them bombs an' high tech weapons rolling off the assembly lines. The rich come off smelling like a rose- particularly under a Repuke mis - Administration.

16. There's taxation and there's ridiculously over complex taxation |
|
2 very different things.
The British tax code has been moving in the American direction for a few years now Gordon Brown (the chancellor) has a phenominal mind and can actually understand it all - the problem is that nobody else can.
This just feeds the accountancy profession.

it is a deliberate plan to soak people like me. the upper middle, wage earner, no place to hide. no credit for me 3 kids, only 3/4 of my deductions allowed. i wouldn't mind, i swear, if it weren't for knowing that i am paying more than a lot of millionaires, and most oil companies.

ever hear of negative net effective tax?
in other words a rebate, which is what most corporations get, in addition to legislation, eminent domain, price gouging, etc.

individiual consumer will pay all the corporate taxes in the end, anyway.
Still, the complication of the tax code is, in and of itself, unfair. Eminent domain for private parties is unfair.

2. How do people end up owing so much? |
|
Always give them extra by declaring no deductions; the chances of getting something back is likely and it compels you to live within your means (unless you get a shiny, pretty credit card like I had. :dunce: )

partly under withheld, but hit the spot where deductions go away. no child credit, deductions reduced. got a bonus that was under withheld. all added up. personally, i hate to get refunds, especially now. make them wait for that money.

Make too much money, didn't withhold enough, too poor to take advantage of Bushcos tax break, too well off to get any other types of deductions, that help lower income people. That translates to fucked.

Have to hit the middle, so the rich can pay minimum taxes - that's the name of THEIR game. That's why I'd vote for -shudder- even Nader and the Greens, before I'd vote for a stinkin' Repuke.

My wife made a little more money but we don't own a home yet and the child is on the way (July) so we owe ~$2,800 this year.
I guess we aren't living the 'Murkan dream the right way.

Thanks to the damned contract position I had to take after being out of work for 6 months. I'm so glad that the company decided to hire me fulltimer permanent 6 weeks earlier than I expected.
This is the FIRST time I've not gotten a federal refund. Thanks for the tax cuts, Shrub. Meathead.

I saw the check. But I think it means he had a very, very good year to owe that much.
P.S. In fact, I think he was trying to impress me!

and no we are not having a very good year...in fact we are making only about 2/3 what we were making 5 years ago when we got a $1700 refund.
Oh, the $2400 is ON TOP of what was taken out in withholding taxes.

41. Just wait until they privatize collections |
|
As I understand it, the best people have been run out, leaving the sadists, the lame, and the over-worked. Underfunded and understaffed, struggling with archaic and patched systems, the solution will be to privatize, proving yet again that big governement doesn't work and the marketplace is a miracle. Plus, it could pay for itself if we just sell the data. What a deal.
