Know your fish and where to buy. The Marine Stewardship Council website is a great resource. They also label 'safe, sustainable' fishing operations throughout the world. Check it out.

1. I dunno, Dover. There was a post last night that NYC inspection found
7 out of 9 Salmon sold (Whole Foods was mentioned) is really farm raised even though it says it isn't. PCB's and food coloring added and you can't tell until you cook it and then it's mostly chefs who can tast the difference.

People paying $29.00 a pound and it's the farm raised stuff. I love fresh salmon but I'm put off buying it anywhere these days...

From March to November no salmon is fresh the article said and wild Atlantic Salmon marked as such, is really Canadian farm raised salmon.

Said there really isn't much real Salmon left to buy....quotas and overfishing.

I don't mean to be discouraging though. Maybe your sources are great.

For fish lovers times are tough these days. I used to love canned Albacore Tuna....don't eat it anymore because the thought of how much mercury is in it kind of turns me off looking at it. I know I'm safe just once a week...but I look at it and can't do it..

2. I heard something about that. Do you have a link?

I will read it and call my Whole Foods tomorrow about that. They really cannot afford NOT to be a reliable source of safe foods.
People trust they are buying safe, healthy meat and fish there. And I don't see any fresh tuna listed. Whole Foods does sell their own brand of canned tuna (Tonga tuna), but not sure what the story is on that as regards safety.

I wonder where the breakdown of information is, if they are indeed selling farmed fish. I know that true wild salmon are seasonal and shouldn't be available year round.
