23. all right I'll tell.... |
|
you seem to be such a busy woman I'll just come out with it....
In kindergarten, when I was 5,every day when I got home my mom and dad asked me if anything was new...and every day I told them the same thing and it got boring after a while, so one day, I said the teacher hit me. And that led to a big stink, and it hurt my teacher, (who I liked and never really hit me, I made it up...ie: I lied), and once I realized what I did, I have never been able to really forgive myself. And that was over 30 years ago.

how to choose....
I bought a 98k car on a whim (I still love the car). I asked a man to move in with me that I'd been dating for 3 months (it didn't work). I decided to move to the town I live in before ever spending any time there (best decision I ever made). And on and on and on.... I live for the moment. It usually works. And when it doesn't, it's a good experience.

This is exploitation of human weaknesses for some sort of bizarre message board pleasure in the suffering or degradation of others.

10. Took out the corner of the Snyder Plastics office building, while driving |
|
a tractor with a 50' trailer, in the early morning, after being up all night, working at the plastic factory, and doing meth given to me by my supervisor, to keep production high. That was in 1976, the only year I did meth. I decided meth really wasn't very good for you, and quit. Wasn't my fault that the steering on the tractor got stuck, though if I hadn't been up all night, I might have been able to stop it. Was fun to see all the office workers run out. I got fired of course. Was just as well, cause I hate third shift, and I'd had enough hot plastic gas.

The controls on the tractor were rusty, the office building was made of thin sheet metal, and there wasn't much room for maneuvering in the yard.

to support "the love of my life" and his plans for the future(I put him through school instead) or when I became pregnant w/ his child and then realized that he was an abusive loser (so I left to try to raise our child on my own-and am still doing it to this day).
Dropping acid at that Green Day concert (at least my friend Maria told me they were Green Day) many years ago and not remembering much of what happened after that was pretty irresponsible too. And maybe dating the chemistry major in college who's entire goal in life was to be a "cook" ranks pretty high on the irresponsible list too.

They were all doing Xanax while drinking, and I did too. I have a big black blur of most of the events, but I do kind of remember a guy having sex with me while I said no, and no one stopping him. I still feel stupid for taking the Xanax, and then realized I felt even worse when I realized that all of those people were just "friends" and not real friends that would help in a situtation like that.

25. It's a toss up between |
|
taking 17 Valium and drinking a fifth of vodka in one night and not taking an offer by one of my high school teachers to pay for any college I wanted to go to. I had the grades to get into some of the best of them too. Not going to college when I graduated high school has made it harder to readjust to college life in my 30's. It is affecting me now. I'm still looking at 4 more years to get a bachelor's degree too because I spent a year and a half getting another diploma instead of jumping into the associate's degree curricula.
The extreme urge to treat intense emotional pain with depressants was pretty stupid idea too. Let's just say that although I didn't have a near death experience like other people explain, I did have this weird thing happen that I'll never forget. I've never been able to find anyone who can explain it to me either. After doing as many drugs as I could get my hands on that day, I started feeling strange. No surprise there, because I was tempting death at that point, praying for it really. After my little escapade into stupidity taking all those pills and drinking so much I could hardly sit up any longer, I layed down and what happened next was weird.
You know those ceilings with all the prickly things on them? Well, I was laying on the bed in the dark trying to make the whole world stop spinning and trying to make myself breathe, because my body seemed to be unable to do that for itself like normal(autonomous). Next thing you know, I opened my eyes and it looked like the light had been turned back on. I knew I turned it off, because I remember how long it took me to half crawl, half stagger to the switch. It was weird enough that the light had been turned back on. I started what seemed to be floating upwards although I was still laying down. I kept floating up toward the ceiling and freaking out at this point. I felt like someone was pulling me up and pushing my body back down at the same time. My face was getting close to the ceiling at that time and I turned my head sideways to avoid pushing through the ceiling with my nose. I felt the prickly things on my face and it felt like someone was pulling me through the ceiling. It hurt really bad and I was terrified. All of a sudden it felt like I fell back on the bed and the bed actually felt like it bounced when that happened. I was frozen in fear and panic and a wide range of emotions and thoughts went through my head for what seemed like eternity. I never touched valium again after that. The alcohol took a little longer to stop for me though. I attribute giving up the heavy use of drugs and alcohol to my cat, Sunday Girl. She came along a few days after that experience and I raised her. I had to stop the shenanigans to stay coherent enough to feed her and take care of her.

Supposedly, they can be quite pleasant, but it sounds like yours was manufactured by the effects of the drugs and maybe that made it unpleasant. Google "out of body experience" and you'll find several websites about the phenomenon.

If it is supposed to be pleasant, I'd like maybe to experience it that way, but like I said, I was terrified. I'll certainly never mix alcohol and pills like that again and never take that many pills as one time either. It was something I'll never forget. Thanks for the info. I'll look at it as soon as I can.

After a frat party, when I still went to those sorts of things. HAd a guy I didn't even know in the car with me.
The road narrowed, and alongside it was a church with 3 driveways over a drainage ditch. I hit ditch, driveway, ditch, driveway, ditch, driveway, then took a flying leap into a field in my '79 Chevette.
We just told the insurance company I wasn't wearing my glasses, and didn't see where the road narrowed.
I was so freaking lucky. I've never drunk anywhere near a car again. FSC

and I thank good that I have never harmed or killed anyone from my stupidity. Worst thing was, the one friend I would hang out with all the time did all of the driving and I know she was usually worse than me.
Fortunately, with age came responsibility and now we do the Designated Driver bit although I have to admit I don't drink the way I use to. I think in the past 4 years the times I've really been toasted I know I was someplace where I knew I would be staying for the night Of course, I can count on one hand the number of times I've been that bad in the past 4 years.

I was driving on the Trans Canada Highway in Saskatchewan - it's really easy to go to fast. I was going around 115 miles per hour.
I hit black ice and did a 360 x 3. I definitely had an angel on my shoulder, because I didn't hit any other vehicles (the highway was very busy) and the median was pretty level.
I was 21, driving my parents' car, and taking a bunch of teenagers to a conference. Luckily, no one was hurt, and the car was undamaged.

funny as hell since i had someone in the front passenger seat.
i was at ocracoke island in 1982. no one on the beach road. i was driving along at approximately 5 miles an hour when my buddy said i could run faster than i was driving. so i tested his hypothisis by opening my car door while it was in motion, jumped out and slammed the door shut and ran alongside the car for about 75 yards then got back in. the whole time my buddy was screaming at me to get back in the damned car as he was steering the car from the passenger seat.
weed makes you do stupid shit like that.

36. getting married the first time |
|
We were good at being boyfriend & girlfriend, but we kind of rushed into things and even though I was unsure the last month or two before marriage, I still went ahead with it. Turns out, she was unsure, too, and with some bad luck happening to us right after we got married, things quickly went downhill. And, while I tried everything I could think of to save the marriage, she tuned out & just spent money like crazy until the inevitable of her filing for divorce less than a year after we got married.

I learned my lesson of course--I scraped through those situations okay, and I'm grateful I SURVIVED (it easily could have gone the other way) and even though my life circumstances are roughly the same as they were when I did that crazy shit (my excuse at the time--"these circumstances are forcing me to this") I would never, never do anything like that again. Did mention I'm glad I'm ALIVE? Oh, good.

47. During the campaign last summer, |
|
I wandered around all kinds of disturbingly bad neighborhoods, sometimes until as late as midnight, registering voters. All alone, unarmed, just me and my little clipboard with forms and pens. Looking back, that is some of the DUMBEST shit I have ever done in my entire life. I mean, I'm gald, really glad, I was able to sign up all of those hard-working people who had somehow not managed to do it for themselves until the middle of the night just before a presidential election, but--it's possible I went too far. I can't believe I was never harassed, threatened or even looked-askance at that entire time (I must have engaged in this reckless behavior for at least one month). There was such a feeling of goodwill toward volunteers for various election-related causes everywhere in my city at those last weeks. Sort of. For the most part, it was wonderful to see. That was probably why it didn't occur to me that what I was doing was a tad bit unsafe. Well, on top of the fact that I was a little nutty during the campaign days (grief-stricken, friends all out of town, family uncaring, stressed out over ten thousand other things, you've heard it all before). In the upcoming years, I definitely want to register voters, but I think I'll be more cautious.
