If Everyone Swept The Street In Front Of Their Own Houses |

The neighbor will just have to deal with it. (Or buy a kick ass vacuum.)

5. Then everyone would have to sweep |
|
away the dirt their neighbor swept over to the front of their house. We'd be endlessly sweeping away the crud of another short-sighted Republican policy, and the Republicans would blame the street sweepers and not their own stupid ideas.

I have a neighbor who does that. I thought he was had an obsessive compulsive disorder or something. Talk about your classic example of wasting your time doing something that doesn't need to be done.
The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists and other subversives. We intend to clean them out, even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country. --John Mitchell, US Attorney General 1969-72

|
Sunday morning everyone is expected to sweep the sidewalk in front of their house. If they don't their neighbors let them hear about it.

11. ask him what "Schoddenfreuder" means... |
|
pronounced shod-den-freud-der.
Old saying an old Nazi told me. It means, "Taking guilty pleasure in other people's suffering."
Republicans are full of it. Just mention it and see what kind of reaction crawls across his face.

12. I've heard they actually used to do that, |
|
My mother told me that during the 20's when she was growing up, the new immigrant families from Poland and Germany used to sweep their streets and sidewalks and even scrub them down.
I think that this particular saying has more meaning, kinda like clean up your own life and not worry about what everyone else is doing. May be a good thing to say to a few fundies.

13. Philosophical considerations aside, when I was a kid I lived in |
|
Germany, and they did sweep their walks reagularly, and German streets were always neat and tidy and clean.
It works.

|
And I'd shovel the grit that collected in the gutter and dump it in the dumpster, too.
Hey, it was MY 'hood, y'know?
I don't live there anymore. I have enough fun now picking up trash from the yard of my apartment building. Hey, it's my LANDLORD'S building, y'know?
