Poll question: What happened to my roommate?
He said he was having dinner downtown after work so he wouldn't be back until later. He still hasn't come home this late. What happened?

1. He won the lottery and is going to pretend that he doesn't 'know you'
(but just in case, that theory is wrong, did you try calling his cell phone? You know you can always say you were worried that he was trying to 'stiff' you for the rent?)

5. What happened is you are fussing over him like a MOTHER HEN.
If he doesn't show up in a month, call the FBI.

7. If I never showed up, I would hope that someone worried about me.
Does he have a cell phone? Do you know where he might be? I think it's better to find out than have him found at the bottom of a canyon, a month later. Maybe I watch too much TV, but this is just my IMHO.

8. You need "roommate rules"
If anyone spends any time under my roof, and they are not planning to be home that evening, they are required to either call and let us know, or leave a note so stating ahead of time. Leave a phone number so that one can be reached in an emergency.

That way, no one worries. My house, my rules. Don't like it, stay somewhere else!

I'm absolutely inflexible about this. I just don't like stressing or worrying about people, and this solves MY problem!

22. And he's not your father...BUT
I don't have a senior-subordinate relationship with most of my houseguests, it is a rule I insist upon simply so that others residing in the house, as well as myself, don't have to endure unnecessary angst. I don't want an itinerary, I just want to know if someone isn't going to be there per usual. It's common courtesy, and you yourself should also let people know if you aren't coming home and give them a contact number for emergencies.

Letting people know you aren't coming back is polite, just make it clear that you don't really care about the where or the why, just the when--as in, when do you expect to return?

26. great rules!
i'm like that too and i'd do the same thing if I had roommates. i don't.

i have a daughter. the rules are similar. she has a curfew (legally no but i say yes), take the cell phone with you, leave a house phone number if you're going to a friends, call me if you're going somewhere else.

i do the same for her--but i really don't go out much. when i do the same rules apply to me (just in case i'm needed and so she won't worry)

10. that he got lucky seems the most probable
Are you truly worried about him? Is it completely unheard of him to stay out all night? Or are you just hard up for poll topics?

:o

Nah truth be told, I find marriage to be a stupid thing. Not bad, but silly. What difference does a piece of paper make? You love a person or not, meh I say to marriage. So if I find someone getting hitched is not high on my list of things, so I'll probably be living in sin no matter what.

33. FYI: The Conclusion
He was in fact with his ex-girlfriend getting lucky. He came home around 5am. Wouldn't I have been a sphincter ninny if I had called to check up on him and interrupted good sex? Thank goodness I didn't!
