Can listening to country music lead to suicide?
Just heard a program on BBC Radio in which two American researchers seem to have found links between listening to country music and suicide in the US.

You can hear the program at:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/science/allinthemind.shtml

and the segment starts at about the 20-minute mark.

Interesting - maybe it just bores you to death.

1. If I had to listen to most of it
it might do the trick for me. :sarcasm:

3. My Sentiments Exactly
Junior Brown, Great. Vince Gill, without the singing, ok. Everything else is Pfffffffffffffffffft! Much too white. All beat, no rhythm.

2. that study goes back to the 80s, doesn't it?
It hardly seems a new study, seems I heard this 20 years ago. I would be surprised if it is still true, since country music has been completely infected with the irony epidemic and is no longer so thoroughly disheartening and depressing. Back in olden times, it was completely sad and depressing, the joke about it being all drink and divorce and cheating and heartbreak and prison and mama being pretty much true.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

6. Listening to indie rock does it for me
Well, not so much the music itself as the attitude of those listening to it, as if listening to a garage band who hasn't made it big is somehow better than listening to a garage band on a major label.
