Have you ever fallen for a Get Rich Quick scam?
If so, which one?

When I was in college, I decided to try one of those "Make Big Bucks Stuffing Envelopes" schemes.

Thankfully, I think it only cost me about $25 to find out that it was just a worthless chain letter.

Looking back, I wonder why I ever thought that someone would pay top dollar for envelope stuffing.

4. Invested $1,500 in a dubious penny stock promoted by a UCSD lecturer
The man whose name I can't recall was involved in a company that claimed to have an efficient process for making liquid hydrocarbons from coal.

Over the next 15 years it did some reverse splits, a merger. $1,500 became $500, then $40, then $.40. It finally evaporated completely just last year.

I could probably use it for a capital loss, but my ex wife would have to be involved since it was community property. Probably not worth the hassele.

6. My husband and I did. It was a scheme where we were supposed to
sell telephone cards.... We paid up front $1,000, got over a hundred cards to use or sell, and then found out that those cards expired in less than three months. The guys at the top took in tons of money and then pulled the plug on those of us holding the cards.

Sigh.

Live and learn.

7. Oh yeah,
I went to architecture school about 30 years ago. So far still waiting to get rich, but it's pretty fun.

9. So, would you like fries with that?
:)

Just kidding.

I attended a for profit business school. They cited 68% placement in their paralegal program. What they didn't mention was that anyone who got a job was considered 'placed' so if you worked at Wendy's you were part of the 68%.

Luckily I already had a job in the legal field and quit half-way through (still ended up with killer student loan bills) but at least I didn't double my agony trying to get a job with a bogus degree!

8. No, I was born suspicious and cynical
I've probably missed out on some legitimate opportunities because I'm so skeptical.

10. Not really, but...
...I once voted for George H. W. Bush.

And everyone else had to pay for my mistake.
