What criteria do you use for putting someone on "Ignore" or deleting a thr
thread?

I don't care what crazy opinions people have but I'm persnickety about language, and if a person uses a lot of "cussing" that I find offensive I use my ignore button. Interestingly, I've found these people usually just go away before too long. They do not show up as "ignored" any more.

The only time I have ever deleted a whole thread was when the headline said something about child neglect or cruelty to animals or something of this nature that upsets me to even see the beginning sentence.

1. If all the person does is pick fights..
And by this, I mean the person is simply a naysayer and does nothing but pick fights with anyone and everyone who opposes their position.

6. that's the reason I use it.
I have only used it three times. after a while, I take those people off for a probationary period, and then after a while I go "Oh, NOW I remember why they were on ignore"

:)

2. I ignore threads for the same reasons you do
Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 07:57 AM by Skittles
I just can't handle stories of child/animal abuse.

The DUers I ignore are either suspected trolls or just plain freaking annoying. And the cowards - I cannot stand cowards who don't directly contront me but snip to others about me.

don't get summarily deleted. (it seems a common practice and some still engage in it and it really is low to do.)

25. I've noticed several answers along this line. I don't see HOW a person
could pick on someone behind their back- all postings are hanging out there for everybody to see.

Plus the mods will get us if we misbehave too badly :)

4. My criteria: I use the ignore feature
-when people use the Lounge as their therapist sessions
-when people post threads continually to get attention
-when Yankee fans start posting holier-than-thou threads
-when hypocrites in GD use their religious beliefs to justify their misogyny
-when hypocrites use the illegal immigration issue to express their racist ideas.

With baseball season in full swing, I expect my Ignore list will grow.

7. I don't
If someone is upsetting me, I certainly want to know if they are responsing to my threads. It really would be more upsetting to be posting in a thread where they were attacking me and not be able to respond because I was oblivious to this. To me, ignorance is not bliss. If they are just annoying, I just choose not to read what they are saying.

8. I've used the ignore feature twice
Once for a poster who directed a particularly venomous personal attack toward me and then insisted upon following me around trying to continue it. The second was for a poster who simply does nothing but pick fights and post deliberate flamebait. I just got sick of being annoyed by it.

I rarely use it because I'm consumed with curiosity when I see "Ignored" for the poster's name and I don't know what they've said.

14. Same here, Skygazer
I only have one person on ignore, because of their continual choice of topics to post. I've tried having more people on but my curiosity always gets the best of me, and I take them back off. It's the same reason I don't hide threads. I can just choose not to read them, but I still want to know what's going on around here!

Usually, I think EVERYONE has worthwhile things to say, but I felt compelled to put a poster on ignore for the first time the other day because of the predictability of the posts.

what I mean. Ignoring someone for a short period allows me to "get over it," as it were, after which, I take them off ignore.

Edit:
s/to rude/to be rude/
s/off ignore/off ignore./

26. I did each one time--just to see how it worked.
There are a bunch of threads that I personally ignore, but as an earlier poster (postor?) mentioned I like to know what's going on.

And the most off the wall annoying people are often the most entertaining--if you have the strength for it on that day! ;)
