at recruitment fair, the contrast was striking between dems and repubs
Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 01:56 PM by pres2032
this morning, my college had it's major open house for incoming freshman where all the student groups are able to set up tables and recruit for next year. this year the dems were next to the repubs and wow, the contrast between the two tables couldn't have been bigger. Theirs was filled with all kinds of flags patriotic ribbons and whatnot complete with a life-size cardboard cut-out of you know who. They were also giving away posters, gift bags, and candy.

ours: we had a little display on our activities, some handouts one what we do, buttons, and oh yeah, we were having the incoming freshmen and their parents make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a local homeless shelter.

so to recap,

them: giving candy away to rich college kids
us: having rich college kids make sandwiches for the homeless

edit: clarification, none of the rich college kids who went to the republican table went to our table to make sandwiches, aside from a couple of the republican members.

1. Why the cardboard cutouts of *
It is like even they know he is illigitimate, but they have to rub the stolen elections in our faces. I never saw cardboard cutouts of Clinton.

3. hah, that's true
I especially loved their sign that said "college republicans support America." I really wanted to put a sign behind ours that said "Democrats hate america."

5. If they "Support 'Murika" so much, then why are they not in Iraq?
Pass out enlistment forms. If they are supporting the war and the "war president" so much, they can fight it.

Good for you and your fellow Dems. You are doing something that will put a little light into someones lives.

13. Back in '72, I lived on campus at Kent State.
The day after the election, some R put a huge picture of Nixon up in his window with the sign, "We Won!"

About 10 minutes later, the room next to him taped up a map of the USA with the sign, "We Lost!"

14. its because a big part of the right-wing mindset is hero/idol worship
No matter how strong and independent these people like to pretend to be, they are really frightened by the world. They need a big brother or father symbol to take care of them.

2. A life sized cardboard cutout
of you know who? :puke: I would have had to make a pea shooter and would have spent the day nailing it.

I like your idea of making the sandwiches. Great idea.

of her with the cut-out.

yeah, this is the third year we've done the sandwiches. This year we made 26, all of which will probably be eaten by kids.

10. It is the same way that Saddam had statues and posters of himself
dictators and royalty always like to have their faces displayed everywhere. Our beloved fuehrer knows we love seeing his smiling face. After all, we have to, it's not just patriotic, it's the law.

8. not as much as we wanted
but then it's an off year, so we weren't expecting the numbers that we got last years, but we still did get quite a bit, hopefully more than the repubs

7. Making sandwiches
was a great idea, because it shows that Democrats don't just pay lip service to helping those who need it. The fact that a couple of the Repukes actually came over and helped showed that a minority of them actually may have some brains and a moral conscience.

9. yeah, some do still have some of their soul left
though we had a tally up of # of homeless fed by the two parties and we were of course blowing them away, so it was mainly to put some marks on their side.
