Man brings meth into courtroom for hearing on Son's drug bust
ALLEGAN -- Sheriff's deputies make their share of methamphetamine busts in rural Allegan County, usually after tracking down clandestine drug labs.

But sometimes, the criminals make it easy.

Wednesday, police said a 34-year-old Otsego man tried to get past two security screeners at the Allegan County courthouse with an Altoids box full of 30 tiny meth baggies.

He didn't make it.

As part of his routine, Reserve Deputy Mike Johnson asked the man to remove everything metal from his pockets. When he saw the square tin, the deputy shook it.

"I didn't hear any of the mints rattling around. As soon as I opened it, I knew what it was," Johnson said.

He never expected to see someone bring meth into a courthouse, especially with a sign outside advising people they are subject to search. Deputies waiting with metal-detecting wands are clearly visible through the courthouse doors.

4. SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME
I was outside the courtroom (when I workd for Juvenile probation), and a woman apparently thought I was another parent. We talked for a while -- though I haven't taken any drugs for years, I'm an expert on the subject.capable of discussing any type of drug at length, and that's WHY I took the gig working with troubled kids -- and she apparently thought I was cool.

I wasn't cool, not in the least, especially when she handed me a baggy of meth to hold for her while she escorted her son into drug court.

This shit happens all the time. Wanna free high? Poke around in the garbage cans at the courthouse. I promise you they'll be filled with dope that addicts got too paranoid about.

5. WHAT? Oh. My. God.
And after the CRAZY shit I've been reading about Iraq and BFEE all day, on top of the thousands of pages of stuff like it I've been reading all year long, I did not think I could get any more jaded or learn any more horrible stuff about the world. And then, your post. Thanks for the education. Seriously, I really thought I was getting wise but...just call me a gigantic hick I guess.

6. I literally thank God daily
That most people, at least in America, haven't had to see some of the horrible shit that happens here. This little story isn't even the tip of the iceberg.

Of course, it might be better if more people knew what was happening to their kids, and their neighbor's kids, but overall I think the world is mostly a better place with "gigantic hicks" in it. :)

7. And another thing: I lost that job due to the BFEE
While there's alot of problems close to home, Bush has actually cut funding to law enforcement, calling it a "local" issue. I lost my job due to a cut in federal grant money (though luckily I found the job that I was really meant for), a grant that went up every year under Clinton and down every year under Bush. What kind of Republican is soft on crime, fer crissakes!?!

I'm may be a pragmatist, and certainly don't consider myself an isolationist, but shouldn't we try and clean our own house before we try and fix other people's problems?

8. Meth is such a family values drug
I watched the documentary "Crack, Made in the USA" and it seems that whole families get hooked on that stuff
