I don't worry about "celebrities" and their political affiliations.
Besides, our team does way better in that department, and that says alot for the quality of our ideas, because the celebrities that support us are voting against their economic interests.

17. I saw the opening skit... |
|
and had raised eyebrows at what it was suggesting, given the recent spate of violence against judges. I may be too sensitive to this kind of stuff, but I did find it interesting that hardly any of the audience was laughing. I live in Houston, and can't wait to bid farewell to Delay and company, so don't get me wrong! I think he's scum and has certainly done all they are saying plus some. However, suggesting violence against congressmen/women, is kinda on the edge, if not off the edge. All I'm saying is that I found the awkward audience silence interesting. OR, (and I hadn't thought of this until just now) they were all Repubs who have no sense of humor.

Prior to turning on SNL, I watched Whoopi's latest HBO special on HOD. She is brilliant. So much range and much sharper satire than I'm finding here tonight.
But it's time for Weekend Update so things might get better.

|
Good pacing, way more hits than misses, Jiminy Glick was funny...I think they are tightening up, which is good.
I have noticed that when the cast gels well, and the writing is crisp, and they have that pacing and chemistry and edge, the political humor gets really good as well.

Thanks to a big assist from Martin Short. Will Forte really nailed that bit. Might have stretched it a little too long, but it was the highlight of the show so far.
The show has been iffy, but Update did get things back on track.
To this point I'd say C- at best, IMO.

But hey, I like Martin Short....especially that skit with the nervous smoking guy on 60 Minutes, who says "I never said that!" And I get a charge out of his Jiminy Glick, especially when he interviews real people and asks inappropriate questions.

I'm impressed.
But the live crowd didn't get it at all. Might have been too spot on.
The monologue was too long and kind of uncomfortable. When will they learn that you get the non-performers on and off fast?
Football Toss was obvious and even went to a tired stereotype for a laugh. Disappointing.
Dr Phil (sigh...) I really hate the TV show sketches. Not even Rachel Dratch's chest could save this one. This sketch is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with SNL right now.
I groaned when the Falconer came on, but that was actually a halfway funny way to take things.
TV Funhouse "Sexual Harassment" was great.
Tom Brady's Falafel City was okay, but it's really just recycled from Sharpton and Trump. At least they gave a nod to their lack of originality at the end.
Update was ++. Martin Short and Will Forte really nailed it.
Rick!!Rick!!Rick!! I'm probably in the minority here, but I like this sketch. It's a great vehicle for Poehler's energy.
Behind the Music: Superbowl Shuffle was predictable. Horatio's "then why do I have a boner?" line made me chuckle. It felt like filler for a QB host.
Maya gets to ham it up a little in the drunk lounge singer sketch. They might be able to bring this one back because she's pretty damn funny.
The backstage bit with Peyton and McNabb was good. McNabb's mom as gangsta... lol.
Not a particularly good episode tonight, but it was a non-performer hosting so expectations should be lowered. Beck ruled enough for it to earn a passing grade. C-
