Three Dog Night, one of the most popular and distinctive bands in the world, enters its fourth decade with an exciting new live DVD and VHS – "Three Dog Night: Live With The Tennessee Symphony Orchestra" which offers fresh performances of some of Three Dog Night’s classic hits.

Three Dog Night’s statistics are astonishing and virtually unmatched in popular music. In the years 1969 through 1974, no other group had more top 10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets. Three Dog Night’s success, particularly as a live attraction, was so overwhelming that out of necessity, they almost had to "invent" modern rock touring to meet the demands of their fans. The group had 21 consecutive Top 40 hits, 18 straight Top 20’s, 11 Top 10’s, 3 number 1’s, 7 million-selling singles and 12 straight RIAA Certified Gold LPs. Three Dog Night’s hits appeared on best selling charts in all genres (pop, rock and country).

Their records continue to sell around the world, reaching beyond the borders of the U.S. into Japan, Canada, Holland, England, Germany, Spain and elsewhere. Tens of millions of Three Dog Night records have been sold through the years. With the prestigious PBS network selecting Three Dog Night: Live With The Tennessee Orchestra for broadcast during its popular fund-raising events, even more people will be presented with the group’s unique renditions of superb, chart-topping songs.

7. Try A Little Tenderness
was my favorite Three Dog Night release. I liked their version best.

When I was a child I was playing that song on my stereo, and my Dad began singing it. I asked him how he knew that song, and he said it was OLD. Years later, my son was listening to it performed by The Ohio Players and when I started singing along, we had the same conversation my Dad and I had had. B-)

2. Amazing, isn't it?
And not a bad song in the bunch. My favorites are "Family of Man," "Out in the Country," and "Shambala."

3. ... and the name "Three Dog Night" comes from ...
... out on the Australian prairie - cattlemen would gauge the weather by referring to how many Cattle Dogs it took curled up to
a cowboy to keep him warm. Thus, a 'Three Dog Night' means a mighty damn COLD night out on the prairie.

I know this cause HippieDog Hank is part Aussie Cattle Dog, and the lore follows the breed ...

4. "Eeeeeeli's Coming...."
Better walk, walk,
But you'll never get away
No you'll never get away
From the burnin' heartache
I something something something
Everywhere I go - go!

Golden Buscuits and Harmony got a lot of play when I was 12-14.

5. First album I ever bought -- "Around the World with Three Dog Night"
I think I wore that record out I listened to it so many times.

6. Still got a couple of their 45's somewhere
"Black & White" and "Out In The Country", I think. And a greatest hits album (on vinyl) that I picked up at a garage sale somewhere.

Kinda sucks that the other guys in the band can't patch up their differences with Chuck Negron though. Their PBS specials don't sound the same with someone else singing his parts.

8. I was so in love with Chuck Negron.
For me, life was good in 1970.
