1. For the first 14 years of my life
I travelled from base to base. My dad was a pilot in the Navy who went "tar." The P-2 along with F-4's were in my backyard constantly. I'll never forget those planes. I need to get a scanner and scan all those old pics.

4. My dad flew P2V missions over China, Korea and Russia
ah being a Navy brat and knowing "secrets".

Meanwhile we were able to live in Hawaii -- the longest time we lived in one place while I was growing up.

7. Hawaii .. Barbers Point NAS? VP-1?
Seems like VP-1 flew P-2s in the past. VP-1 rotated with VP-7 during my tour at NAS Cam Rahn. They flew P-3 Orions then. As a Crazy Cat (US Army 1st RR), I made many friends in the Navy units that we lived with at NAF Cam Rahn Bay.

3. Nope. Normal oil seepage for a R-3350.
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 08:45 PM by DemoTex
Typical R-3350 oil consumption. The R-3350 .. 3350 cubic inch displacement (26 cylinders .. twin banks of 13) and 3350 horse power. That always amazed me. It was a "run-with battle-damage" engine. It was a "bring-you-home-alive" engine. Saved my ass over the Ho Chi Mihn trail at night.

On edit: I do have a picture of a P-2 with extensive battle damage to the port wing and inboard engine (the outboard engines were Westinghouse jets}. My buds got DFCs for that mission (lost both recips, landed on jets only). I'll see if I can scan that in.

5. I was a Navy airdale from 65 - 69.
This was when the P-2's were being phased out and the P-3's were being phased in. Now I understand the P-3's are being phased out.

Spent most of my time in Rota, Spain.

6. Nope, the P-3s are being upgraded.
Kind of like the C-130Js.
