Talk about wearing spring colors... I could be naked and still be in fashion :scared:

Seriously, anyone else ever experienced this side effect?

5. Yeah, I got the skin AND the eyes going yellow
Waiting for a call back from my doc to see what he wants to do about it. It's just disconcerting as hell, especially the eyes.

7. Take a few snapshots with your digital camera in a well lit area
You will be able to see if you are getting more yellow, or less over time. The doc might want to know.

Your meds could be interfering with normal hepatic function

yellowing (jaundice) is sometimes an indication that your liver is not functioning properly. Some drugs can cause liver failure, for which jaundice in a sign - but I don't know about Cipro metabolism.

If it *were* liver failure, you could die.

You might want to get this checked out.

I went to PubMed (a publicly accessable archive of publications in the life sciences) and grabbed the following abstracts on ciprofloxacin (Cipro) and liver damage (just to make sure you're taking this seriously):

Eur J Clin Microbiol Infect Dis. 2003 May;22(5):294-6. Epub 2003 May 9.

"Fulminant hepatic failure is an uncommon but life-threatening adverse reaction to antibiotic therapy. Reported here is a case of severe liver injury associated with ciprofloxacin administered for treatment of a gram-negative infection in a 79-year-old female. The patient presented with metabolic acidosis 48 hours after the first ciprofloxacin intake. Symptoms resolved after cessation of ciprofloxacin therapy. This report highlights an uncommon side effect of a commonly used antimicrobial agent."

Virchows Arch. 2004 Jan;444(1):87-9.

"Ciprofloxacin is a fluorinated quinolone antibiotic with relatively low occurrence of adverse side effects. However, increasing evidence suggests that ciprofloxacin may cause severe liver damage. Until now, 14 cases of ciprofloxacin-associated liver injuries have been reported. We describe a case of a 22-year-old male who developed hepatic failure after intake of ciprofloxacin. The patient had been treated with 2 x 250 mg ciprofloxacin per day. He presented with symptoms of acute liver failure 14 days later. Liver biopsy revealed extensive hepatocellular necrosis involving zones 3 and 2 of hepatic acini and a mixed inflammatory infiltration containing abundant eosinophils. Symptoms resolved after corticoidsteroid therapy. In the present paper, we report the clinico-pathological characteristics of a case of ciprofloxacin-associated acute hepatic failure and discuss the current literature."

9. I called my doctor this morning
Still haven't received a call back. I also have my 3 month old grandson here with me, otherwise I'd just head off to see the doctor right away.

14. Are you itchy?
I had severe jaundice as a result of a liver infection. The only thing that tipped me off was that the whites of my eyes turned yellow...

You might be allergic to the cipro..

The doctor will need to see you...

16. it took over a week for me to experience the full "joy"
of a liver infection. I was out of work for 3 weeks...

I was tested for everything and in my case it was because I was on steroids for my back and they lowered by immunity which made me susceptible to a virus that attacked my liver..

And did you have any pain at all once the jaundice set in?
