So this is what Adlai Stevenson must've felt like. |
|
Just found out I lost my second election in the space of a month, lost the office of student government Vice President of Legislative Affairs, two weeks after I lost my township race by a paltry 224 votes. On the bright side, I did win as a write-in for student government representative. So I can still cause SOME trouble.

11. He was four times elected to the IL General Assembly |
|
and also to the US House in 1846.
Man, I feel like a buzzkill saying that.

12. Still a good example. |
|
He did lose two Senate races in a row before finally winning the Presidency. He was also gypped out of some plum federal appointments that he was promised in the early 1850s, too.

I'm calling the SG on a lot of their bullshit, and they don't like it. I may have lost the big race, but they'll still have to deal with me. :D

Actually, you're not that far off. The other guys that I ran with for the other officer positions and I have been hearing stories of biased election judges, intimidation and influencing by current SG members. We filed an official complaint, which actually delayed the results till today, but SG blew us off.

13. You could always do like LBJ did in his 1948 Senate race. |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 12:22 AM by elperromagico
Nearly a week after the election, "recalculations" appeared from certain counties known for voterigging which gave LBJ an 87 vote lead over his opponent.
Funny thing was, one precinct showed 200 extra votes for LBJ. These were organized folks; they showed up to vote for Landslide Lyndon in alphabetical order.
Still others were of a highly patriotic nature; they showed up to vote despite the notable defect of being dead.

23. You know, that might actually happen. |

Some of the SG reps act as though they need a translator. I was reminded of the story of Justice Brandeis being asked if a particular person was intelligent. He said, "Yes, he has intelligence, the kind that leads one not to stand in front of a speeding locomotive." That's kinda how I feel in talking to Student Commission. :P
