A Poke at the Pope
Have you ever seen a picture of Pope Paul?
Have you ever asked yourself this question:
would you trust this man with your soul now?
Would you trust this man, ask yourself now.
His eyes are sunken, his cheeks are hollow
While you poor the poor of the world, they follow
He hoarded up their gold in the Vatican.
Would you trust this man, ask yourself now.

A poke at the pope, that's what we're having
A poke at the pope, that's what we're having
Ave Maria, Ave Maria

Do you remember when the floods hit Italy
How the things they treasured most were destroyed?
All the paintings and the worshipped images
'Cause they lost their faith in the real God.
It's going down and it's going down fast
It really didn't think the ignorance could last
All the little children are learning,
And the constellations turning.

1. There's a couplet in the song "Awaiting on You All"
from George Harrison's album All Things Must Pass that dates from the Pope Paul VI era:

And the Pope owns 51% of General Motors
The stock exchange is the only thing he's qualified to quote us

Harsh.

2. Good line. Lots of spirituality in both George Harrison, and Donovan.
I'm posting this thread more to post a humorous Donovan song, than to be Anti-Pope. I think this Pope may surprise us with the extent of his opposition to PNAC, and the waging of wars of aggression.
