2. 2000 is like a beta for XP

With Microshaft, it's almost always better to get the latest version that your applications can stand.

3. And, as with all Microsoft products
The beta works better than the live, because they didn't spend enough time on it to royally screw it up

4. I'm stayin' with 98SE until my computer croaks.
What can I say? I like it.

Plus, nobody writes viruses (virii?) for 98 any more.

6. Well, most XP viruses can also infect win98.
So the logic escapes me.

10. That may be true.
The logic is that I still like 98SE, and it's not such a memory hog. My poor 'ol computer still does everything I need it to do without the upgrade. Also, "most" does not equal "all". It's comfy like an old chair with a cigarette burn in the armrest.

11. The worst spyware infections I've seen are always on 98...
And believe me, I've seen bad ones ;)

22. Same here
I'll never use XP. Never.

When I get my new box I'll probably keep a Win98 partition (for games only) and run a distro of Linux.

5. A Computer Upgrade Forced An Upgrade To XP
So far it is much better than Win98.

I'm running it with NTFS and so far no major problems.

I've tested it for network security and all the IP ports are locked upped tighter than a drum.

I was thinking that this was a new OS since the poster was talking about OS's and not browsers.....I just wanted to learn more.

17. Win 2000 is at the end of its life cycle
Get yourself an OEM disk of XP Professional for less than $100, with the purchase of ANY hardware ($12 floppy drive qualifies).

23. 2k will be around and viable until 2007 when Longhorn actually comes out.
(they said 2006. Then they said 2006 after nixing 75% of the new whoopdie-dingdong features. Now it's Xmas season 2006, which means it'll likely be 2007. What remainds? Digital 'rights' crap and a new user interface that won't work unless you have a sufficiently powerful (e.g. hardware designed and made in 2009) design.

XP = 2k with lots of ram hoggy unneeded extras added.

Go Linux. :-)

15. I am switching from Win 98 to ........Apple
in a couple of months when I buy a new computer.

If I had to make a suggestion, I say go for 2000. I use it at work and never had a problem with it.
