2. Just played it on the piano but
Edited on Sat Apr-23-05 02:48 AM by Seabiscuit
it doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard.

Tried several variations using a C both below and above the original B, for instance. Still "doesn't strike a chord".

Perhaps the problem is not knowing how long to hold one note relative to another.

Just play it. Speed it up. Or slow it down.

If nobody can get this, I'll be shocked.

20. I've sight-sung through it with straight quarter notes...
It means nothing to me without note values at the very least. I could probably figure out the time signature from there, but music is so much more than a series of pitches...

23. Hint #2:
The notes are not a vocal melody. It is a musical riff played in the song, on an organ.

24. Well, your first post invited us to "name this old tune". A "tune" is
Edited on Sun Apr-24-05 10:03 PM by Seabiscuit
usually thought of as the vocal melody. Organ riffs in the background, or even during interludes, aren't usually that memorable. Notable exceptions: "My Little Runaway" and "Whiter Shade of Pale".

So it's really not that easy to decipher.

Edited on Sun Apr-24-05 10:14 PM by Seabiscuit
realizing it until I read my post and started hearing the organ riff from "Whiter Shade of Pale" in my head while reading the notes again.

Actually, the first B note is simply held down on the organ for a while before the other notes begin. I think that threw me off when I played it on the piano.

33. You're right
I added extra Bs to try to simulate note length. I probably shouldn't have done that.

Again, very well done, Seabiscuit. I'll make the next one easier. Or do you want to do the next one? Has to be a well known song.

Are you "passing the baton"?

I have one in mind (which should be easier - for one thing, it's a vocal melody, and I won't extend notes by repeating them), if that's OK, but I'll wait to hear from you first.
