6. If you see stripes, there's no flying.
Take it from someone with a few stripes.

Now, that only means enlisted people can't be behind the controls, but enlisted people CAN have many different flying jobs. For example, the person who flies the big refueling boom into the recepticle on another aircraft hooking up to a tanker plane, is an enlisted person. You also have loadmasters who get the pallets of equipment onto transport planes, and fly with them.

12. No problem at all...
A lot of people I run into don't realize that only officer fly. I always said, if I was single when I was in the Air Force, I would have wanted to be a loadmaster.

Think about it: You get to go all over the world. I mean, your ass is flying something like 250+ days out of the year. Talk about seeing some incredible sights. Combat? No sir, the closest you'd get to combat is flying in and droping off some cargo or troops (or picking them up) and then you're outta there. Man, that would have been cool.

I didn't have to worry about combat when I was in. Clinton was president and we were pretty much at peace with the entire planet...for the most part. Man, those were different times, eh?

Oh well, I was married back then though, so I just fixed F-15 avionics parts. That was a damn cool job too. :)

I got to ride in an F-15 once. One of the most incredible experiences of my life.

11. Matcom, everytime I see that, the irony cracks me up
You've had the peace sign avatar for quite a while, and every time I see the peace sign next to "M1A1 Tanker" I get a chuckle. It's beautiful irony.

17. US Navy 1965 - 69.
Sort of like the Air Force guys above, I was in the Navy for four years and never was on a ship. I was in the aviation part of the Navy. The squadron I was in flew C-118 and C-130 aircraft around the Mediterranean and they were too big to go on aircraft carriers, so I was on dry land the whole time. Spent most of my enlistment, around three years, in Rota, Spain. I'd like to go back there some time. Left there as an E-5 (AK-2).

19. You folks all rock.
I didn't serve. Chances are I couldn't have due to health things, but I never even realized it was an option for me. I often wish I had known, had signed up and been able to serve.
