My week in review - long and rambling
Edited on Sat Apr-23-05 10:24 AM by kedrys
For the two or three of you who noticed I haven't been around much this week :P, here's the dirty lowdown:

Monday: packing is ongoing for the upcoming move. The s.o. came down with strep throat late last week, and had to lay low all weekend, so we're running behind. My main computer eats itself after an operating system upgrade, so we decide to pack it instead of bringing it with us - we'll deal with it later. Imhotep (the mac daddy of the outdoor cats) has almost stopped eating, so we have to take time out to take him to the vet and arrange to have him boarded there. Ishka (Antimatter's daughter) drops what turns out to be 6 beans - although we won't get to see them until Thursday.

Tuesday: more packing, arranging for utilities to be transferred to the new place, where we won't be moving into until May 1. Time out to take the indoor hordes (Caesar, Plato, Socrates, Evie, and Quark) to the boarding place. Said kennel is quiet and clean, and they're the only kitties there. Still more packing. Pizza at some point. The house is unnaturally quiet without the cats. Last night sleeping at the house.

Wednesday: MOVING DAY!!!! The moving crew shows up on time at 9am sharp. We're not done packing, but these guys turn out to be experts and help us break down the maxihuge office desk. The lead guy calls in two more guys to speed things up, so we have one crew upstairs and one crew downstairs. We keep packing small stuff and stay out of their way. We get done around 3, and take off to the storage space to tuck everything away.

Wednesday evening: after checking into our temporary headquarters (Marriott's SpringHill Suites, nice, roomy, clean, and with free high-speed internet access), we realize that the moving guys accidentally packed up the only laptop we have that'll play DVDs. We go back to the storage place and dig the thing up in under 10 minutes...out of a 10x30 container. Dinner at Chili's.

Thursday: back to the house to finish packing the kitchen and clean the place up. Time out to try to get Eddie (and her 2 kittens) and Ishka (with a crew of 6) into a box to carry to a foster home - no dice. We both get pretty badly shredded. S.O. will require a tetanus shot. We do catch Neutrino (Quark's sister) and take her to the kennel, where she is ecstatic to be reunited with her brother after 2 years of living outdoors.

Thursday evening: the vet calls from the clinic and says that Imhotep is ailing badly, and it may be time to let him go. She'll try a couple more things and let us know how he is tomorrow. After still more packing, showers at the hotel and dinner at Chili's again. Much less food this time - we're both crispy.

Friday: the last of the trash, shoveling out the garage, and the last of the packing, including swords and booze. The storage hold is full to the gills - self-congratulatory pat on the back for picking the right size container. We visit the kitties at the kennel in the afternoon, and find out Neutrino almost pulled off an escape the previous night by climbing an eight-foot tall trellis in the cat area. The caretakers put her with her brother, which increases the purr-and-knead factor by 800-fold. We spend about an hour, bring them toys, and get Socrates to come out from the kitty hideout he stuffed himself in.

Friday evening: the vet calls back from the clinic and says Imhotep is eating everything in sight, and he can come home anytime! Dinner consists of take-out spaghetti, calzones, and Star Trek: Enterprise.

Saturday morning: I'm testing the wireless access :) . I can't remember the last time I slept 10 uninterrupted hours - I feel almost human again. Closing day on the new house is Thursday, and we get the keys on May 1st.

:hi:

On edit: somewhere between Monday and Tuesday, finally got out of the 700 Club. :)
