I just switched my long-distance to Working Assets
Are they really as progressive as they say they are?? Though I have to say, the free pint of Ben & Jerry's each month is key.

1. Where did you find that?
We're looking for some alternatives to AT & T.....

2. It's always being advertised on Working for Change

On Edit: I also switched from AT & T. I switched local carriers a few months ago and AT & T used that as an occasion to reset my long distance service. I went from paying seven cents a minute to 30 cents -- without ever being notified. By the time I figured it out, they told me it was too late to get a refund. I canceled right on the spot -- bastards!

3. I've used them for a couple of years
At the end of each year you are allowed to distribute 100 "points" to whatever cause(s) you choose from their list of supported causes. They are all progressive/liberal causes. The points represent a percentage of the the money you have paid them. I also have a Working Assets credit card. Same deal applies.

4. I did that last december
I like getting the phone bill now-- lots of great information, and the money goes to really good causes and groups-

Very progressive, and activist

I am very glad I changed to WA long distance (ice cream coupons keep coming, too)

5. somewhat.
but they use that MBNA for their credit cards and a friend of mine who has been with them for years and donated hundreds through them, if not thousands, got cut off when she accidentally missed two payments (not a large bill, probably less than $60. Never late in the past, either.) and they want a reconnect fee. I told her they'd probably wave it but she's so angry, she's quitting them. I have them and have really only used them for LD, none of the political stuff. But I guess they are-check out the stuff on your first bill.

7. Update on my friend's disconnected service:
Working Assets is peeing themselves right now trying to make it right. I guess the spectre of going to Quest or PacBell or whoever her local is was too sickening, she broke down and called. I think treats will be involved...

8. Their credit card is through MBNA
which is probably the most conservative credit card company out there with Crowley (the former CEO) being a very good friend of the boy chimp!
