The Green Day concert last night in Norfolk, VA rocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Green Day concert last night at the ODU Ted Convocation Center (sold out) was fucking awesome!!!

Highlights of the show were:

The music: The band sounded simply amazing!!! They played for about 2 /2 hours. In addition to Billy Joe, Mike and Tre, the band had another guitar player, someone on keyboards, and at one point, someone on sax and trumpet?!

Billy Joe, before beginning "Holiday," said, "This song is a big FUCK YOU TO GEORGE W. BUSH!!" which got a huge roar from the crowd.

During "American Idiot," which opened the show, Bill Joe shouted, "I want you to sing so loud every redneck in America can hear you!" We complied, of course!!

The band invited three kids from the audience who could play guitar, bass and drums (2 girls and a guy, respectively) to play on one of the tunes (sorry; couldn't remember which), and Billy Joe gave his guitar to the girl who played his. Lucky gal!! The guy playing drums was instructed by Billy Joe to stage dive, and had everyone cheering him on: Jump! Jump! Jump! until he did.

Billy Joe pulled some kid from the audience to squirt the audience with big water pistols with him.

The band performed covers of Queen's "We Are the Champions" and "Shout" by the Isley Brothers. Billy Joe did a little James Brown shtick where he fell to the floor and was covered by a robe (like the kind worn by a king?!).

If you want to read some reviews (both fabulous!!) by the local papers, I've included some links here:

www.pilotonline.com

See where it says "Concert Review." Note: Not sure if you have to register (it's free, though). The direct link is below:

For Richmond, VA DU'ers, I thought you'd find this amusing: I saw a Richmond Times Dispatch car parked near the Convocation Center. I said to my husband, "Guess they'll be giving this one a shitty review, considering Green Day hate Bush, huh?" I didn't see a review in today's paper, btw.
