An update on my strange office (Repubs/Dem's/Fundies)
I've posted many threads about the office where I work. We're a fairly small company in Portland; only about 30 employees. There's a strange mix of Rat-publicans and Democrats and Fundies.

We have 2 religious Fundies; they have been the subject of several threads. Of the other 28, the office is pretty much split in half between Reps and Dems.

After the election last November, there was lots of animosity. I would say our office is a microcosm of the US as a whole, albeit on a small scale. After studying the 3 groups, there are some patterns emerging. The Repubs seem to be heavier; they're older, and they make more money.

The President
A Republican. He makes over $120,000 per year. About 2 years ago, he almost bankrupted the company because of his excessive travel & expenses (=looting of the company). The Board of Directors had to intervene; he got in big trouble & had to promise to not do that any more. (Like I said; it's a microcosm). Laid off several people to keep from shutting our doors. Everybody had to cut back, and now we're doing really well again. The Prez can count on another bonus of about $36,000 in December.

Managers
There are 5. One is a Dem; the others are Repug's. The most notorious is an obnoxious, bloated manager who's a real creep.

The Creep
This is an aging, overweight walrus of a man who thinks he's awesome. He's obnoxious, brags about being a Repub. When the war in Iraq started, he wore an American flag shirt that was really tight on him. His stomach stuck out between the button holes, but he still felt he was a "proud supporter".

The Creep recently held a speech at an important gathering. He strutted up on the stage, bragged about himself most of the time. He bragged about the Bankruptcy bill; made it sound like he had single-handedly pushed the bill through Congress.

He talked about "breaking the debtors' legs", and proceeded to insult truckers, and elderly people. I was astonished, ashamed to be working at the same company as this man. No one laughed at his jokes -- just silence which the jerk didn't even notice.

Finally, this week someone complained about this ogre. The President stopped counting the company's money and looked into it. The creep is now in big trouble. There were some closed doors yesterday (Friday afternoon). The Creep was very quiet, seemed really humble. Wonder if anything will happen?

My Boss
A Republican. He's proud of that. He wears it almost like an initiation to a Country Club (= if you're a Repub, you're rich!). He's very overweight & balding. He loves to brag about his money, his house & his fat retirement, even though I won't get anything close to what he's getting (what does he care?).

He's a big meat eater so he stinks like roadkill. When he comes into my office, he leans over me and I almost faint from the smell. We've had plenty of fights. Our biggest was last November. On November 3, he leaned over me and said, "Kerry is about to give his concession speech". He gloated.

Then he walked over to his office, and turned up Kerry's speech really loud so I would have to hear it. I was fuming, and he loved it. Now, however, he's not so jolly. He's having problems in the office. Lots of people are complaining about his lazy attitude (he only works about 1 hour/day).

He's starting to worry about the economy. He sees that the problems are getting worse; interest rates, unemployment, the war in Iraq, our balance of trade deficit, deficit spending, etc etc. Lately, he's furious about the price of gas. He was upset, said, "why can't Greenspan do something?"

The 2 Fundies
Surprisingly, the 2 fundies in the office are younger. One is the receptionist; she carries her bible with her to the lunch room and reads out loud for the rest of us; just in case any of us sinners need "saving". The other one, amazingly, is the computer programmer (!).

He just purchased a wife from Indonesia. They were married recently, and are planning to have a big family.

A strange place for a progressive person.

1. Fundie
reading from the bible so everyone can hear! I'd have a real problem with that and would say something directly to her.

I'd be in big trouble if I worked at your place...

2. I'm with you.
I'd bring my own bible. I've highlighted passages that are absurd, and posted others in the margins of many that contradict them. As well as many that stress belief in the scriptures. Give me a couple days, her little head would be spinning.
