Some people have pets instead of children.
Some people who really want children have pets instead.

Sometimes it is because they can't have children. Sometimes it is because they don't have children. Sometimes it is because they can't handle having children.

I never wanted children, and I don't have pets as a replacement for children. :7

Very good!

Sadly, because I don't hide my dislike for kids, and I'm pro-choice, anti-choicers think that automatically means that I (and by association, all liberals) am a baby-killing liberal. I "prove" their argument. Yechh.

6. Dammit, Floogeldy, it's good to see you again on DU.
You're right. some people would rather have animals than kids.

I know a couple in Florida who opted for spider monkeys instead of kids. No joke. They have two spider monkeys that are their "children."

The spider monkeys run around the house in diapers and more or less are regarded as children.

I guess it saves having to go to parent-teacher conferences.

28. Floogeldy, your post is interesting. By that I mean it --
-- has a high threshold of interest.

It is the question of an alert and integrated person.

____

Eugenics? Mind control? Voodoo? Cannibalism? Inter-Species Sexual Hedonism? ALL of these are present!

The world is collectively APPALLED!

A large, large, large pit shall be dug and you shall be thrown into it forthwith and angry mobs of condemning accusers will hurl jagged stones at you for this post!

____

I look forward to what you have going on these boards at any time, Floog. No matter the topic. Stay the course & kick butt!

10. Why dogs are better than kids ...
Edited on Sun Apr-24-05 12:43 AM by BattyDem

;-)

  • It doesn't take 45 minutes to get a dog ready to go outside in winter
  • Dogs cannot lie
  • Dogs never resist nap time
  • You don't need to get extra phone lines for a dog.
  • Dogs don't pester you about getting a kid
  • Dogs don't care if the peas have been touched by the mashed potatoes
  • Average cost of sending a dog to school: $42, average cost of sending your kid to school: $103,000
  • Dogs are housebroken by the time they are 12 weeks old
  • Your dog is not embarrassed if you sing in public
  • If your dog is a bad seed, your genes cannot be blamed
  • Kibble and water are cheaper than formula and diapers.
  • They have more hair when they are born.
  • Dogs never forget to "go" before they leave.
  • Dogs can go on long trips without yelling "MOM HE'S TOUCHING ME!!!!"
  • Dogs never grow out of being kissed in front of their friends.
  • It doesn't matter how much dog hair a Dog gets in its mouth.
  • You can cage a dog without going to jail.
  • Dogs will watch classic Star Trek with you and won't laugh at the special effects.
  • Dogs hide their "blankies" in their crates rather than dragging them around in public.
  • The older a Dog gets, the more they like you.
  • Dogs don't ask why. Dogs don't ask why. Dogs don't ask why.
  • Dogs don't roll their eyes when you insist Dogs today have it easier.
  • Dogs don't jump on the bed; they just quietly shed in them and lay on you, considerately adding to your warmth.
  • Dog poop is easier to get off the wall than crayon.
  • When Dogs don't listen to you, it is because they cannot understand the complex human language.
  • Dogs have tails, making it easier to grab them as they run away.
  • No one passes you a Dog with a loaded diaper.
  • When Dogs interrupt you making love, you don't have to explain that the two of you are "wrestling to see who does the dishes."
  • Dogs don't grow out of their shoes every 2 1/2 months.
  • Dogs, when entering those teen years, are neutered.

My child wears a fur coat :-)

On the other point, I must admit to you that Bill Frist does come to mind. I frankly wouldn't want THE CAT BUTCHER around any living thing, whether kids, cats, dogs, horses, or ground cover.

My words on THE CAT BUTCHER are hyperbolic but the fact remains that I wouldn't want Frist cat-sitting for me next weekend.

50. Floog doesn't know it . . .
but I'm one of his (or her) biggest fans, too.

I just don't want our nation to ever again start down that slippery slope of "someone in authority" deciding who's fit (for reproduction, to live "in the mainstream," to contribute to the "overall good" of the nation) and who's not. And there are some who say that's what's happening now under the current regime.

16. We've been told . . .
(my husband and I) that we're "selfish" for not eeking out a couple of kids to join our families' every widening circle of grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, etc. And maybe it's true that we're selfish, but we're perfectly happy with one another, our cat, our godson and goddaughters, and friends' children. We sort of see it as our responsibility to honor our rational selfishness; after all, if we had human children, we'd be the ones raising them, not the grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.

End of rant.

But I'm on your list. I have pets. I love them dearly and fuss over them. I don't have children, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to. But your point is valid, because I have chosen pets and when my vet speaks to me he actually says "how are the children?" Either it's his view of the world or there are just so many like me.

he is an alcoholic, she is a workaholic and an enabler. their dogs are fenced into their yard, and god forbid they got out, they'd kill another neighborhood dog or perhaps a child. (one dog actually killed another of their dogs a couple years ago.) the owners do nothing to stop their vicious attacks-through-the-fence at anyone walking or driving by. one bit the nose of another dog that got too close.

i shudder to think what their children would have been like. (they are too old for kids now.)
