Kurt Cobain or Eddie Vedder |
|
I'm still pissed at Cobain for killing himself (if you don't believe that Courtney had him killed, and the guy in Kurt and Courtney makes a pretty convincing case for this).
I think he should have stuck around, maybe the world would be a different place if he was still here.
I used to not like Pearl Jam but now I totally respect Eddie Vedder for sticking around and helping to fight the good fight along with all of the other progressive artists.
Boy were we naive during Clinton.

and I think there's some strong evidence implicating Courtney Love in his death.

2. Kurt was a better songwriter |
|
But leave it to Courtney to make death look good by comparison.

3. Kurts' lifestyle killed him...... and that is tragic. |
|
I am 40 something, but I recognized his tortured art. He and his art were beautiful.
I classify him almost (or at par) w/ Morrison. I cried when Morrison died. But It was 3 or so years after the fact. I was young and unaware.
PS - Love's dad lives 3 blocks away (with his pit bulls).

4. I always find it strange that many musicians bitch about him |
|
they say stuff like "he only knew three cords" or whatever...I've heard this alot.
But damn, what he did with those three cords...
damn, I am watching Carmen Electra on VH-1 and she said that the Ramones perfected the recipe for the perfect punk song : three chords, 2 minutes, and no solos.
I'm there. Plus Nirvana was during the heighth of MTV when the videos were really high art. I remember the video for one of their last singles "Heart Shaped Box" and it was such amazing pure art.
Cobain was like an emotion, a paradigm, or something, and he expressed that perfectly.
I love Eddie Vedder though, that "I'm Still Alive" song is so creepy if you know what it is really about, emotional ( and sexual?) incest, and he hit that chord perfectly.
Incidentally, I am a tremendous fan of Courtney Love, I think she is a brilliant songwriter as well, just like her husband, she knew what to leave in and where to stop. It drives me nuts that people accuse her of taking his songs, there is nothing similar about their writing styles at all. No one portrayed the atmosphere of child sexual abuse more accurately in music than Courtney Love, except maybe Bjork on the song "Birthday" on the old SugarCubes "Life's Too Good" album from the 80's. Courtney's writing is so flawless, she can send me in to flashbacks and make me want to jump off a building. Her songs probably have driven many people over the edge, they give me chills. I wish she'd get it back together.

5. I'll be honest too, and say that I think Love is stellar in her own right. |
|
She is 2-3 people I grew up with rolled into one. However, her dad is a dick. Big Time.

6. yes, he really showed his behind in the film. |
|
the weird thing is, everyone that they interviewed in that film was obviously afraid of her, including and especially her dad. It scared me when they said that the guy who copped to her offering him 50k to kill Cobain was found dead beside the railroad tracks near his house right before the film came out. I don't know about Courtney, but her genius can't be denied.
Didn't she once say that her Dad used to lock her out in the shed with the pit bulls? I missed that part of your post the first time. I mean, this is when she was like 8 years old or something. She has an interesting history, her granfather was up in the Johnson & Johnson company (as in "Love's" Baby Soft and all those products) and apparently she is an heiress and grew up rich, which you would never know from her now. I read an interview with Lydia Lunch about 15 years ago where Lydia was upset because Courtney had been saying the two had been roomates (this was before Courtney hit the mainstream) and Lydia was saying that it wasn't true and that Courtney was a 'pathological liar and a rich bitch, always has been rich'. I don't know why that quote stuck in my head. Apparently her mother hated her, which is weird considering her mother is a psychiatrist. And I thought my family was fucked up.

7. I have never attempted to talk w/ her dad. |

He is a paranoid w/ nasty dogs.... nice house though (did you know Morrison lived in the same neighborhood?).
We live in a bedroom community of the Bay Area. Almost NO CRIME.... because we are NOTHING other than bedrooms protected by lots of police we vote to increase (in #'s and salary). I have lived here 13 years w/ none other than 'random weirdness' crime. We are sooo protected, there are so many paranoids around me...... they get me paranoid. But then, no real crime here in 10+ years???/
I am an educated high $$$ voter, as are my neighbors. Some are WHACKED... most are not.
