How do you resist replying to stuff you read here???

I can't hardly stop.

Sometimes I say to myself, "OK Just take a look. No time to start posting." Then I see something I really agree or disagree with. Or perhaps an opportunity to help someone out that is looking for info.

Of course, I AM a bit compulsive...

I could have followed your strategy but instead my response has to bookmark everything so I now have an unmanageable Favorites list with about 129 categories. Haha. I think half the people don't bother to follow the links anyhow.

4. I lurk around while I'm learning.

I'm still catching up on so many things that have taken place while I was playing ostrich.

I was watching CNN on the morning of 9/11/01 as I had been doing everyday since my retirement in 1995. By the time two weeks of watching the horrors of the world following that painful day in America's history - I had seen more pain and suffering of innocent people than I ever wanted to see. So - I turned the TV to the weather channel and that was the most I was willing to watch about our world until recently.

I visit (or lurk around) the other forums to read and learn. I've been passing on little bits of information to my friends and my community. Evidently ~ I'm planting the correct information where it needs to be ~ because now instead of just asking me how to find DU, people are taking out their own pens and scraps of paper to write down information about how to become part of the Democratic Underground.

5. That Is Great! The Lounge I Have found Is A Great Place To Decompress.

General Discussion is a bit more tense. So take it easy over there on days you feel the stress getting to you. Great info over there though!

I always love to see people passing the info along to non DUers out there. The cumulative efforts of the folks here can really provide some great info and better than that connections between different bits of info. Connecting the dots!

26. I lurk about 99% of the time because I just don't seem to interact well

with forums on the Internet(s). There are so many erudite people here with such wisdom and information to share, I feel like a complete n00b in comparison. However, I do take what I learn here by lurking and pass it on to those with whom I come into contact in daily life. I have come to rely upon DU and like minded sites such as Buzzflash and Kos for much of my news, now that I know the corporate media are simply shills for the government.

I know how you feel though. I do find it a bit daunting on certain subjects. Its it hard when you are feeling out of your depth. I usually try to do some googling in that case to get better up to speed on the topic at hand. It helps!

way longer than I (lurking at least). Probably saw some interesting developments in all that time!

I often say stuff just as a hello to the poster etc. or at least I'll kick threads even if I don't have much to contribute personally.

Also, I like to nominate good ones as often as I remember. It is a really good shout out and if you can find two more you spread the message a bit further.

And by the way, it is only a waste of their $$$money$$$ if your grades start to drop. Otherwise it is just your free time.

and it seems like a waste of the site's bandwidth to say "ME TOO! ME TOO!" DU is run on a shoestring, so I try to treat posting like I would lights in my home -- don't turn it on if you don't have a reason to do so.

I've been lurking around since 2000, joined sometime after that (don't remember exactly when, but it's been a few years) and I visit this site every day. DU is extremely important to me, but I find that I'm given little credit for my views when I do post because of my low post count. I'm not annoyed about that, just bemused. :hi: On the whole, this site is a 99% positive experience for me.

There is an issue with the "ME TOO! ME TOO!" factor. However, Those me too's also kick threads and get them a bit more attention. So there is some reason to waste a bit of bandwidth with 'em. It makes us posters happy too. We hate to see our threads go down in obscurity.

Your views will always get the fullest consideration I can give them when you give me a shout out. So, fell free to come see me on occasion even with a little "ME Too!".

Low hit counts do make folks suspicious. Often times unfairly so. Of course a hey more posts and you are looking like an old-school (group approved?) DU poster. Just a thought. Not pressure.
