Two Great Sherlock Holmes films on TCM tonight |
|
Both give psychological insight into the Holmes character and they are two of my favorites. From 1969 is Billy Wilder's little known but masterful, "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes". Which deals with such issues as Holmes' drug addiction and the question of whether he was homosexual but still includes a great mystery and as usual in a Wilder film some good moments of comedy. This is on at 8pm. Following that film is another excellent Holmes film from 1976--"The Seven Percent Solution"--which goes into even more detail as to why Sherlock got hooked on cocaine while presenting a complex mystery to boost.
