4. Agreed.
Things started going really downhill with the Spice Girls, and it's been God-awful ever since.

I had the same epiphany back in the '90's, and my opinion hasn't really changed since :)

18. I'm far from "grumpy old man" stage.
But it seems like music, especially in the last two or so years, has gotten even more ultra-craptastic. Utterly manufactured and awful.

8. That fact testifies to the uselessness of the Walk of Fame.
I really hope some Vine Street winos urinate on it.

14. The only thing that unites Democrats and Republicans in our nation
is the desire to beat Ryan Seacrest. With a very heavy flashlight.

10. It does indeed suck ass..
.... corporate music A&R have finally managed to totally kill the golden goose.

Sure, there are people out there making great, original, passionate music, but you will never hear it on the radio. What you hear on the radio is so derivative, so copycat, so uninspired, so unoriginal, and so fucking insipid, it makes me sad for young folks.

Just a couple weeks ago, I was talking with a woman I was selling to. We were talking about our kids, she has a son about the same age as my oldest (15). I was telling her of my amazement that he likes a lot of the music that is my all time favorites, plus some more contemporary stuff that is also really good. She said yeah, her son is very fond of practicing his Zepellin, and that he's so good she can't tell it from the record. Zep? Music recorded 30+ years ago? When I was a kid nobody was playing anything (on their instruments) more than a few years old. Why is the kid playing Zep? Because there is nothing near as good coming out now :)

15. my kid too!
14 years old, and rockin' out with the great music from my day (early 70's)... he loves Hendrix too! My nine year old is the same way, when they think they are turning me on to their fav. song, and it was one of mine back in the 'ol days...I just laugh.

It is kinda sad though, we aren't seeing many new artists that have originality worth mentioning.

19 and 15.
"Hey Dad! You ever hear of Hendrix? He sounds like Stevie Ray!"

And they like Zappa, too.

11. It's like when 1997 started, everything went down hill.
And over the course of two or three years, the remaining good bands had their last gasps of creativity (albiet good gasps) and then everything went to hell in a handbasket by 2000.

16. Even now, there are still odd pockets of real talent.
But they're few and far between. I find myself listening to more local talent, and that gives me hope for the future.

19. Interesting story.
Last night I was with a friend and she played this band who is local. THe guitarist is staying with her temporarily. I listened to this CD and I was blown away. The music was like a cross between Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin and the guitar player was so talented. It blew me away.

21. I'm fortunate that where I live there is a lot of local talent.
I'm in student government, and we don't contract anybody who isn't within a 100 mile radius. There are so many great acts from all genres it just blows my mind. We always have a good turnout when we have concerts on campus, because we bring quality acts.

12. Well...
There's good popular music and bad popular music. In certain parts, there's different kinds of popular music. The Top Forty is the generalized crap that corperations pay to get put up on bilboards.

THE TOP FORTY ROBBED ME OF MY SIMPSONS!!!

22. Pop sucks! Yes, I agree for all reasons stated above.
However, there is some great music out there, just not the kind that is pushed incessantly on the mindless masses. Thank God for satellite radio!
