Sexiest love song in the last 20 years?
Edited on Mon Apr-25-05 06:04 PM by KoKo01
I kind of vote for Sting's "Fields of Gold." But there must be more...
:shrug: Looking for more "traditional" replies...rather than Hip Hop, Rap, etc.

I like what I posted because it's simple and lovely and celebrates a "joy of love" and "love remembered." That's kind of what I'm looking for if anyone has recommendations.

On Edit: Quiet Sexiest...not loud and "in your face" stuff.

Oops! Here's lyrics:

Sting - Fields Of Gold lyrics

You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we walk in the fields of gold

So she took her love
For to gaze awhile
Upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold

Will you stay with me, will you be my love
Among the fields of barley
We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in the fields of gold

See the west wind move like a lover so
Upon the fields of barley
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth
Among the fields of gold
I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I've broken
But I swear in the days still left
We'll walk in the fields of gold
We'll walk in the fields of gold

Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
Among the fields of gold
You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in the fields of gold
When we walked in the fields of gold
When we walked in the fields of gold

3. Whatever by Jill Scott
"Whatever"

You pulled some tricks out your sleeve last night
Everything I fantasize about
You had me climbing up a wall
How many ways was God called
You represented in the fashion of the truly gifted
You put it down last night
Knocked me out then had me dreaming bout waking up, alright
Do you want some money baby?
How about some chicken wings?
Do you want some fish and grits?
I'll hurry and go get it
Whatever
We made a groove last night
A poignant rocking forth and back alright
Anything I can do for you?
Just ask sometimes you wont have to
I'll be happy just to make you happy
And that's true
Oh
We made powerful
Love last night
Never knew passion could taste so sweet alright
I made a vow to you
Everything I do for you is a joy and a gift
You got my whole life lifted

8. Sting- When We Dance
If he loved you
Like I love you
I would walk away in shame
I’d move town
I’d change my name

When he watches you
When he counts to buy your soul
On your hand his golden rings
Like he owns a bird that sings

When we dance, angels will run and hide their wings

The priest has said my soul’s salvation
Is in the balance of the angels
And underneath the wheels of passion
I keep the faith in my fashion
When we dance, angels will run and hide their wings

I’m still in love with you
Give you all I’ve got to give]
When we dance, angels will run and hide their wings
When we dance, angels will run and hide their wings

If I could break down these walls
And shout my name at heaven’s gate
I’d take these hands
And I’d destroy the dark machineries of fate
Cathedrals are broken
Heaven’s no longer above
And hellfire’s a promise away
I’d still be saying
I’m still in love

He won’t love you
Like I love you
He won’t care for you this way
He’ll mistreat you if you stay

Come and live with me
We’ll have children of our own
I would love you more than life
If you’ll come and be my wife
When we dance, angels will run and hide their wings
When we dance, angels will run and hide their wings
When we dance, angels will run and hide their wings
When we dance, angels will run and hide their wings

I’m gonna love you more than life
If you will only be my wife
I’m gonna love you more than life
If you will only be my wife
I’m gonna love you night and day
I’m gonna try in every way

I dreamt you were by my side
Walking with me baby
My heart was filled with pride
I had a dream last night]

11. Here's one from 1971: Softly Whispering 'I Love You'
A little-remembered classic that deserves another listen.

The English Congregation's version features a singer named Brian Keith (no, not the actor) who sounds a bit like Joe Cocker. Paul Young recorded the song in the 1980s with a jazzier, but less passionate feel.

It's an easy find on P2P and compilation records.

--p!

Softly Whispering 'I Love You'

Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway (1967)
Performed by The (English) Congregation (1971) and Paul Young (1985)

Softly whispering 'I love you'
Echoes of your voice are calling still from my dreams
Softening the chill of the breeze
Through my window
I can see the moon glow
Painting silver shadows on a rose-colored land
A world that we walk hand in hand
In a day of gold covered by the glow of new love

I can feel your warm face, ever close to my lips
And the scent of you invades the cool evening air
I can close my eyes and you’re there
In my arms still
And I know your soft kiss
Turning into music every beat of my heart
When I hold you close to my heart
And I hear your voice whispering 'I love you'

I can feel your warm face, ever close to my lips
And the scent of you invades the cool evening air
I can close my eyes and you’re there
In my arms still
And I know your soft kiss
Turning into music every beat of my heart
When I hold you close to my heart
And I hear your voice whispering 'I love you'

(freestyle coda in the Paul Young version)
Oh I know I need you
I feel you there in my arms still
I keep to forget
I love you

13. My personal favorites are
Edited on Mon Apr-25-05 06:24 PM by LibraLiz1973
Ben Folds~ The Luckiest

I don't get many things right the first time
In fact, I am told that a lot
Now I know all the wrong turns, the stumbles and falls
Brought me here
And where was I before the day
That I first saw your lovely face?
Now I see it everyday
And I know
That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest
What if I'd been born fifty years before you
In a house on a street where you lived?
Maybe I'd be outside as you passed on your bike
Would I know?
And in a white sea of eyes
I see one pair that I recognize
And I know
That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest
I love you more than I have ever found a way to say to you
Next door there's an old man who lived to his nineties
And one day passed away in his sleep
And his wife; she stayed for a couple of days
And passed away
I'm sorry, I know that's a strange way to tell you that I know we belong
That I know
That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and
Don Henley~ Taking you Home
I had a good life
Before you came
I had my friends and my freedom
I had my name
Still there was sorrow and emptiness
'Til you made me glad
Oh, in this love I found strength I never knew I had
And this love
Is like nothing I have ever known
Take my hand, love
I'm taking you home
Taking you home
There were days, lonely days
When the world, wouldn't throw me a crumb, no no
But I kept on believing
That this day would come
And this love
Is like nothing I have ever known, no no baby
Take my hand love
I'm taking you home
I'm taking you, home
Where we can be with the ones who really care
Home, where we can grow together
Keep you in, my heart forever
Oh and this love
Is like nothing I have ever known, oh no no baby
Take my hand love
I'm taking you home
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An odd one but something I love anyway
Whitney Houston- My Love is your Love

If tomorrow is judgement day
And I’m standin’ on the front line
And the lord ask me what I did w/ my life
I will say I spent it with you
If I wake up in World War 3
I see destruction and poverty
And I feel like I want to go home
It’s okay if your commin’ with me
Cause your love is my love
And my love is your love
It would take an eternity to break us
And the chains of amistad couln’t hold us
If I lose my fame and fortune
And I’m homeless on the street
And I’m sleepin’ in grand central station
It’s okay if you’re sleepin’ with me
As the years they pass us by
We stay young through eachother’s eyes
And no matter how old we get
It’s okay as long as I got you babe
If I should die this very day
Don’t cry, cause on earth we wasn’t meant to stay
And no matter what people day
I’ll be waiting for you after jusdement day
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Other favorites are
Foo Fighters~ Everlong (I think this is especially sexy)
U2~All I want is you (as is this)
Sting~ Fields of Gold
DMB~ Crash (Sexy!)
I agree with whoever posted above about Sade's "No Ordinary Love"
thats really sexy
33. "Crash " is one of my faves
And anything by Leonard Cohen
But 'Say Goodbye' by DM can do it for me....It reminds me of loving someone but not for the lyrics, for the time frame.
Though the lyircs are good, too.
So here we are tonight, you and me together
The storm outside, the fire is bright
And in your eyes I see what’s on my mind
You’ve got me wild, turned around inside
And then desire, see, is creeping up heavy inside here
And do you feel the same way as I do now
Now let’s make this an evening
Lovers for a night, lovers for tonight
Stay here with me, love, tonight
Just for an evening
When we make our passion pictures
You and me twist up as secret creatures
And we’ll stay here
Tommorrow go back to being friends
Go back to being friends, but tonight let’s be lovers, we kiss and sweat
We’ll turn this better thing
To the best
Of all we can offer, just a rogue kiss
Tangled tongues and lips,
See me this way
I’m turning and turning for you
Girl, just tonight
Float away here with me
An evening just wait and see
But tommorrow go back to your man
I’m back to my world
And we’re back to being friends
Wait and see me,
Tonight let’s do this thing
All we are is wasting hours until the
Sun comes up it’s all ours
On our way here
Tommorrow go back to being friends
Go back to being friends
Tonight let’s be lovers, say you will
And hear me call, soft-spooken
Whispering love
A thing or two I have to say here
Tonight let’s go all the way then
Love I’ll see you
Just for this evening
Let’s strip down, trip out at this
One evening starts with a kiss
Run away
And tommorrow
Back to being friends
Lovers...love...lovers
Just for tonight, one night...love you
And tommorrow say goodbye...
20. For Your Eyes Only by Sheena Easton is one of my favorites.
For your eyes only can see me through the night.
For your eyes only I never need to hide.
You can see so much in me. So much in me that's new.
I never felt 'till I looked at you.
For your eyes only. Only for you.
You'll see what no-one else can see. Now I'm breaking free,
For your eyes only. Only for you.
The love I know you need in me. The fantasy you freed in me.
Only for you. Only for you.
For your eyes only the nights are never cold.
You really know me. That's all I need to know.
Maybe I'm an open book because I know you're mine.
But you won't need to read between the lines.
For your eyes only. Only for you.
You'll see what no-one else can see. Now I'm breaking free,
For your eyes only. Only for you.
The passions that collide in me. The wild abandoned side of me.
Only for you. For your eyes only...
23. Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes
Accepting all I’ve done and said
I want to stand and stare again
Til there’s nothing left out, oh
It remains there in your eyes
Whatever comes and goes
I will hear your silent call
I will touch this tender wall
Til I know I’m home again
Ooh
In your eyes (in your eyes)
In your eyes (in your eyes)
In your eyes (in your eyes)
In your eyes
Love I get so lost, sometimes
Days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away
I drive off in my car
But whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are
And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway (in your eyes) to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution (in your eyes) of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
Love, I don’t like to see so much pain
So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive
And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway (in your eyes) to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution (in your eyes) of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
25. Happy Meal - The Cardigans
Arrange my books in order
make up some nice stories to amuse you
make things look smart and easy
shape up the place
hungry for the meeting
the dinner we'll be eating
wine that we'll be drinking
and kinky thoughts I'm thinking
all because of you
And now I've found a partner
no one can be happier than I am
and now I've found a new friend
no one can be happier than me
Prepare a meal with candles
sweet wine and strings
chosen for the purpose
then take a bath with bubbles
shape up my face
eager for the meeting
the dinner we'll be eating
wine that we'll be drinking
and kinky thoughts I'm thinking
all because of you
27. Jonatha Brooke - Your House
Take me down to your house
Show me where you live
Room by room, all the things you cherish
Tell me where you're going
Show me where you've been
Year by year, all the things that you wished
And I'll give my love, give my love
Angel, I am here and I am.....yours.
Whisper me your secrets,
I won't tell a soul
One by one, I'll treasure every story
This is where our love goes
Circling back again
This is heaven's gift to us to tell it
And I'll give my love, give my love
Angel I am here and I am....yours
Tonight we'll speak the old words
Caress the silence
Tonight we'll tell the whole world where to go
I will walk the way in,
You'll take the journey out
Path across our hearts, eyes wide open
Room by room, year by year, one by one, say goodnight,
Love...
Love.
