4. I've just been diagnosed with it myself. |
|
Wanted to see if I was alone.
Did I offend you? If so, I apologize.

12. I've taken many AQ tests online and come out pretty high |
|
On one I come out with a 39 which, according to the test, is an indicator I am Aspie.
HypnoToad, what did you do to get diagnosed?

16. I told a couple of counselors my life history. |
|
I will get an MMPI done.
But no AQ tests.
Still, I'm close to an answer, finally.

2. My son, who turned fourteen today, |
|
was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in 1998, when he was seven years old and in the first grade. It's certainly been an interesting time dealing with it!
HT, feel free to PM me for more info if you want.

I wish I had been diagnosed that young because I only found out when I was in 8th-10th gradish, I Wish I could have found out when I was the age your son was, it would have helped me explain why I am the way I am, but alas sigh.

9. Sometimes I wonder why freepers are the way they are |
|
But I don't think it can be diagnosed. I should grab a copy of the DSM-IV and look it up.

18. Yes, I'm very glad it was diagnosed early |
|
when intervention and treatments really help the best. My own learning disability wasn't diagnosed until I was sixteen and near the end of my sophomore year. By then it was way too late to do anything about it, my neural patterns had already pretty much formed. At that time, though, the knowledge of such dianoses and problems, and sensitivity toward the need for early testing and intervention was only really beginning.
My parents always felt guilty because they were both teachers, they said they'd always thought there might be something not quite right with me and were upset with themselves for not seeing and recognizing it sooner. Then again, they were trained in the early 60's, when this kind of thing was hardly ever discussed, let alone taught.

|
but Aspergers came later, wish I could have dealt with it. How's he doing by the way? I wish him all the best, its not fun to have Aspergers.

3. Kanaloa (yes, with reservations) |
|
a perfectly legitimate vote at the Hawai'i legislature.
The reservations are that no one has been able to determine whether I count as Asperger's or plain old, garden-variety high-functioning autism.
Seriously. Some of the finest minds in the field have grappled with this question and have come up with inconclusive results. The basic difficulty is that the differential diagnosis is made by looking at scores on IQ subtests: verbal > nonverbal: Asperger's; nonverbal > verbal: autism.
The difficulty with me is that both my subscores were off scale...

15. My therapist says I definitely do not have it |
|
On those self assesments, I score borderline. I asked my therapist about this though. She said that I actually was almost the opposite. I developed some AS symptoms in childhood as an emotionally sensitive child reacting to psychological trauma. Withdrawing from others was a coping mechanism.
