A man's garden is a reflection of himself! |
|
I visited my back yard today, looked at my over grown flower beds.
I observed with a critical eye the pile of last years dead
leaves waiting to be picked up. I reflect that I have mowed
my lawn twice this season. My grandson Danny has taken
over the job for me. Weeds are everywhere, happy in their long life.
The sunflower seeds I planted might have sensed my failing interest,
they did not even bother to come up.
My son when he was little said "Dad when I grow up and you grow down"
I chuckled at his thoughts then. But you know what?
Could be he was right.

1. My garden is sort of going wild and overgrown and natural. |
|
(though the weeds have been picked and the grass mown). But I like what that says about me.

full of flowers--the veg garden is lush--green and vibrant in it's growth. i started all these seedlings indoors during the bleak NE winter--I mowed the 2 acre lawn when hubby became sick--he is good now and takes pride in mowing--my garden kept hope alive--that is the magic of seeds.

3. My garden is the rebel of the neighborhood |
|
In a neighborhood of perfect gardens and landscaping, I have a huge redneck plot near the street. It is nothing but cascades of flowers in disarray.
I hack it to the ground over the winter and it all comes up in the spring.
First bulbs in March and April. Early because this is Atlanta. crocus, daffodil, miniature Iris, tulips.
Then in May a audacious blanket of black-eyed susans crowds out nearly everything.
Suddenly towering above the blanket of black-eyed susans in June is a field of sunflowers. The sunflowers are every size and color imaginable. Many of them were weighted so heavily with blossoms they snapped in half last week.
I love it! It's my great escape. What a great summer, by the way. Hasn't this rain been great?

5. How about raised beds, 180? |
|
The kind one can sit down at and work? Square foot gardening in raised bed? Hate to hear you seeming to let go of something that has given you such pleasure. Is there a way to adapt your garden? Simplify?

I resolve to clean up my garden starting tomorrow. I WILL put in some bushes and more perennials this fall.
Never admit defeat!

7. My garden has gotten a bit out of hand |
|
with Morning Glorys trying to choke out my tomato plants. Dunno where they came from. Since I'm disabled, I have to rely on my son to weed, and luckily, he doesn't mind. I sure wish I could go out and do it, but I content myself in watching everything grow.
I have 7 tomato plants, 6 big tomatoes, and 1 plum. The plum is huge, it has 22 tomatoes on it and full of flowers. The big tomatoes, just one fruit, the rest are full of flowers. My mouth is watering and I am growing impatient waiting for them to rippen. Summer was late this year, so I guess I'm just gonna have to wait.
I have 4 sunflowers that should be in full bloom this week.
My mouth is really watering ....
