"Sure, pal. Everybody need see Buckaroo...."
I've discovered over time that cool people liked Buckaroo Banzai. DU is full of cool people, therefore there must be some fans hiding out here.

Just in case you were a closet fan, waiting to turn into a rabid one:

The Banzai Institute for Biomedical Engineering and Strategic Information is a good place to start.

The DVD was released this past year, and won some awards as a great special edition. Which I own, and can attest to its greatness.

And, a man named Ernest Cline wrote a screenplay for a sequel, called (you guessed it) Buckaroo Banzai against the World Crime League, as promised at the end of the classic Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension. A surprisingly entertaining read, although it may make fans wish they just had gobs of money to produce the thing.

No matter where you go, there you are.... ;)

4. I saw it during its first release
In an actual movie theater. Loved it.

The DVD was 1/2 the reason I broke down & bought a player. (Then the player broke down, but Amazon.com replaced it quickly.) The other 1/2 reason was FOTR.

I'd hold his overthruster anytime.

5. Agreed.
I saw this movie in the theater (waaaay back in the day). I actually broke up with the guy I was dating at the time because he said he didn't get it. It was one of the first movies I bought on VHS. Love it!

6. What's that watermelon doing there?
Saw it in first release at one Manhattan theatre and loved it...went to see it again and the sound was so muddy they could hardly make out any of the lines.

Had a friend who saw it in New Jersey and also had problems with the sound...theatre owner said it was the print.

The DVD is fantastic
Anamorphic, and even a deleted scene featuring the death of Buckaroo's parents.

I saw it first in the theater and was building model jet cars the next day.... As to the watermelon -- the screenplay for the "sequel" actually explains it! :)

12. Oh boy! I'm finally cool!
I saw it 10 times in theaters. Also on video and the occasional rebroadcast. I thought this just made me a silly, silly person.
