My point was we are all individuals and each of us needs to assume responsibility for that. If anyone is an asshole, they have only themselves to blame. That goes for men and women. This was said to me on July 4, 1971 by my godfather and beloved Uncle Jack as I was trying to recover from the fact that my first boyfriend and I had broken up.

I had been moping around the family gathering, being 17 going on 18, and Uncle Jack pulled me aside and said this to me. It absolutely cracked me up and afterwards when I told my parents what Uncle Jack had said to me, both of them told me I had my entire life before me and that I would find eventually find someone to share my life with.

I did, but it took another 8 years and we'll be celebrating our 25th anniversary on August 31, 2005.

But I still think that Y chromosome makes most men a little goofy.
