1. Adaware and Spybot: Search and Destroy
Both have worked very well for me, both free.

2. The Microsoft Spyware Removal tool works surprisingly well
and it's free.

Other than that, Ad-Aware and Spybot Searc & Destroy used together work really well.

15. Most were done with my Minolta Dimage A1 digital, but that has now
been upgraded to a Nikon D70 digital SLR.

Thanks for the compliment :).

13. I use the three of those.
But I never have spyware so it's more of just a precaution.

8. When you're finished using Adaware and Spybot
go to www.pcpitstop.com and they will run a complete diagnosis on your computer. It's free and it will tell you if you have any other problems. I go there a lot. They are trustworthy.

12. Bronco is right about pcPitStop ....

That's a great site for speeding up a polluted machine, while there check the link to Fred Langa's site.
He's real big on spyware prevention as well as general computer tech and writes an excellent free weekly newsletter that's very helpful.

Here's the latest issue as an example:
http://langa.com/newsletters/2005/2005-04-21.htm

on edit...I don't see the link there to Langa's site. I think now that it was the other way around....I found PcPitStop through Langa's newsletter.
Here's his link:

11. Webroot™ Spy Sweeper.....
It's great, but may be a pay program.
Check and see....If it's free, I highly recommend.

14. As people have said, use Ad-aware and Spybot S&D
Edited on Sat Apr-30-05 03:24 PM by mvd
They really do find different things.

Try SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster from JavaCool software

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/products.html

Try XP anti-spy

http://xp-antispy.org/index.php?option=com_remository&func=sellang&iso=en

Try IE-Spy ad (adds sites to restricted zone)

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

You can use Firefox for browser or block active-x in IE.

AVOID anything on this page -

16. AdAware and Spybot
That Microsoft spyware sucks, it's not worth the free download...it hasn't caught anything.
I'll run a full system mode on AdAware and then run Spybot. Sometimes Spybot will catch things that AdAware didn't.

17. It's important to remember the hyphen in Ad-Aware, as there's other
outfits with the same words arranged differently that aren't the same thing. Also, since they're obviously trying to fake out people looking for Ad-Aware, they're most likely up to no good. You want Ad-Aware SE from LavaSoft, ver 1.05.

As I think is mentioned above, after you run Spybot - Search & Destroy, use its Immunization tool to block many many types of spyware and malware. Your life will be much simpler.
