A few more of my paintings, and a question for my DU friends.
Edited on Sat Apr-30-05 02:55 PM by Longgrain
I have an ulterior motive for posting this so please bear with me.

But first I'd like to post a few of my paintings, many which have never been posted before, just to see what you guys think. (And my apologies beforehand to those with Dial-up.)

Sorry if some of these are dark and/ or blurry, but photographing oil paintings can be a pain in the ass.

First up is one of my early portraits I did when I was around eighteen. This is one of the first paintings I did where I really started to "get it" as to what a painting is, at least as far as art is concerned, I have no Idea who the woman is, just a model the school hired, so don't ask...

A few stilllifes from my art school days, this first one is appropriately titled "Pipe"

A gathering of various common objects...

And I know I posted this one before, but it is one of my better early works (BTW I made that clay pot myself in a ceramics class and still have it to this day.)

Next up is one of my first paintings from the imagination. Look familiar. The dancing woman in the red dress would turn up again later on...

And finally, one of my more recent paintings, looking out my basement window in winter, entitled "Let's just call this finished and move on to something else."

My question: If I put some of these up in the DU Marketplace, would anyone be interested in buying.

The prices would be reasonable, and I would love to have the opportunity to share my art with some of my DU friends.

Please, no offers right now (keep that in the Marketplace) but I'm thinking between $50-$250 depending on what piece.

So what do you all think?

2. Thanks, "Pipe" was actually extremely hard to photograph

because I used a lot of monotone colors and there was a lot of glare on the painting.

The original isn't quite as dark.

8. The "Let's just call this finished " is more abstract style
I've been leaning toward recently. Despite my figurative work, I've always been very inspired by Piet Mondrian. If you've ever seen his tree paintings, you might notice the similarities.

But the best one, I think, is the coffee can with Elmer's glue and packing tape. That seems to have the best composition and visual interest, IMHO.

I don't know a damned thing about analyzing artwork. The only thing I can say is that when I scrolled down to see "Common Objects" gave it a good long look. It's hard to put my finger on it but it made me feel 'comfortable' or 'reassured'. I guess art is what you make of it.
Great Work!

19. Thank you, since I as the artist
was looking more at the relations of shapes, and colors, and how they complemented each other and flowed together, sort of like seeing patterns and groupings in what, is for the most part, a random gathering...

It's hard to explain, you just have to sense it somehow.

21. Actually the first one, is one of the first one I'd let go...
But like I said, it was the first painting I did where it really "clicked for me" and "I got it" that this is what painting is all about.

I have no personal attachment to the subject, so I figured I'd just set it free.

Anyway, there is something in that painting, something numinous, something inexplicable and beautiful. Maybe it's just that it's when it "clicked" for you, when you "got" it. But it is there.

So maybe I'll buy it :)

65. THOSE are AMAZING!
I've never had any real luck or skill with oils. I think the very best is a toss-up between "pipe" and "every day objects". I think your work's worth more than what you're charging, seriously. I think I've told you this before, but I love the energy in your paintings.

How long does it typically take you to start and finish a painting- or are you more like me, having several going on at the same time? Sometimes I don't know when to stop messing with a watercolor and I wind up doing ONE too many things to it.

Seriously, this is great stuff! :bounce:

66. Good morning Sugah!
You are too kind,

These paintings aren't much, just some old student works.

The good stuff is yet to come.

72. Both red dress pics are things I would consider buying
I like them alot. The other pics just look to me like the craft you had to learn to get to the red dress paintings. You seem to have a great imagination for both whimsy and motion, so I'd love to see more from you in that vein.

74. Thanks AT, and you're right, most of these are just exercises...
Student works as I already pointed out...

If you haven't seen them yet, some more of my whimsical, and sometimes creepy, paintings can be found here...

73. Hey ! I have a thought for you
Edited on Sun May-01-05 02:02 PM by wovenpaint
So many people like these and your inventory is somewhat limited for this big audience.....Have you looked into having nice prints done of these paintings?
I have a friend who's doing giclee (sp?) prints -all different sizes -from her original paintings. That way everyone could get what they like. I believe the price range would be similar to what you're asking for the originals...then you could take the originals and offer them for auction-let the prices (and donations) soar!
I'm not sure of how to get them, but can find out for you if you're interested. Whaddaya think?
:hi:

Oh yeah-I forgot...these are really nice paintings :yourock:

75. Humm, that sounds like an idea, tho maybe for some of my better ones
Everyone always seems to like this one...

But, of course there's always a certain thrill about owning an original piece of art, trust me I have a thousand of them (all my own works, but original art never the less...)
