What interesting things do YOU put in YOUR mashed potatoes.... |
|
to fluff them up or make them tasty? :D
I like butter, garlic and onion powder, plus seasoning salt. :) But what else can jazz them up?

I'm un-Amurkin.
Not crazy about apple pie, neither. And I fly my flag upside down. But I sure do love my mom, PITA though she might sometimes be.

4. I like the plain ol' kind my mom makes |
|
Just potato, whipped with a mixer, lots of butter, salt and pepper...and sometimes she'll add a tablespoon of heavy whipping cream. :)
And on the special occasion, with light butter and cream gravy.
Oh, and real butter, not that margarine crap.

6. Baking powder...just a tiny bit |
|
like, 1/8 tsp per 6 potatoes or so. Then let them sit in a hot oven for about 10 minutes or so before you serve them.
An old-time restauranteur taught me that.

and when I want them fluffier, I use a ricer instead of a masher. Other favourite add-ins: Parmesan, roasted garlic, chicken stock instead of cream, crisp little bits of bacon or pancetta, horseradish (believe it or not these two root vegetables have an amazing affinity for one another), fresh thyme, or sage and cheddar, cabbage and onions (Bubble & Squeek), chopped bits of tart apple....oh the list is endless.
