Cats vs. Dogs: 120 to 37. Cats rule!!

There are 120 DU members whose screen names start with "cat." There are only 37 whose screen names start with "dog."

Caveats:

Some of the names appear to have little or nothing to do with cats or dogs. (Sorry you catch22s and catherines and dogmas.) Cats are still ahead.

There are three catdogs. Maybe they should be excluded.

The numbers may have been counted incorrectly. (What, you expect accurate counts on DU??)

So what does this mean? As an artist friend once said of one of his paintings, it means what you think it means. For me, it means that I was in the mood for a cat posting with frivolous factoids.

But that's just 19 that start with "bird." A a couple of those are apparently golfers (birdieputt).

There appear to be a lot of bird names in the list. I wanted to pick a bird name and checked out several before I found one that wasn't already in use. I am fond of birds as well as cats so I decided on catbird.

She sits and watches the bird feeders. She also watches birds on TV. We keep her inside (Cats Inside!) so she doesn't get much of a chance to try to catch them.

There used to be a cat in the neighborhood who would sit directly below one of our bird feeders waiting for some unobservant bird to come by. I never saw one while the cat was there.

To the best of my knowledge, very few cats (or even dogs) vote Republican. So there's not much point in expending a lot of effort in opposition, at least on DU.

Which actually does have to do with a dog. When I originally signed up for Yahoo I couldn't figure out an easy to remember username. I tried 15 different names and they were all taken. So out of lack of anything else I finally settled on lenidog. Leni being the name of my do therefore lenidog.

I did not pick up lenidog. The user profiles does not support very sophisticated search so I just got those starting with "dog." System is case insensitive, though.

I would use Leni as my avatar. She was a grey weimaraner who was too smart for her own good. She was the best dog I ever met.

I did a very simple search on user profiles, which handles prefixes. I didn't look for synonyms and specific cats or dogs. I need to get some sleep tonight.
