What is "Igor's Revenge"? |
|
I'm seriously asking for some help here; it's an extra credit question on my woodworking final.
A google search reveals nothing but a piece of music which I can't quite relate to building furniture. And some weird-assed fantasy site where a power-tools-driven ship is crewed by squirrils...not the kind of thing that fits my instructor's personality.
Thanks!!

I built custom furniture for 15 years, 7 running my own shop. Never heard of Igor's revenge.

It refers to the fact that the 5x5 sheets of Baltic Birch plywood--since they are square; all other plywood is 4x8 or 4xsomething--sometimes go through the final sanding the wrong way. You may very well not see the defect until the first coat of finish goes on. At that point your piece is ruined and the reason is called "Igor's revenge because "Igor" is a Russian-sounding name.
