6. Yes - boca burgers are great! |
|
And in Thailand they had this fake Pork Char Su that I SWEAR tasted exactly like the real stuff! It even had the consistency down.
But Tofurkey?

Peter Singer almost had me converted - but my lifestyle and ADHD requires a high protein diet...VERY hard to do going veg alone.

now as a kid I detested chicken loaf...it was revolting...all fat and perhaps a glob of chicken...makes me gag thinking about it.

5. Personally, I find trying to disguise vegatables as meat to be odd. |
|
The sole exception being the Gardenburger. I love those even though I am not a vegetarian at all. I used to order them from our diner at my last job all the time.
What's really fun is to order a Gardenburger with bacon and watch people try to wrap their heads around that.

11. Because we have lingering memories of the taste of meat. |

That's why I love Morningstar sausage patties. They taste close to the real thing.

Granted, some folks just don't like the taste of some things, but Tofurkey is a huge seller, and not JUST amonst veg folks like me.
I love it.

15. Most people only bought one, learned their lesson, never did it again. |
|
Not so with Tofurkey, methinks.
You'll also notice that Ford (wisely) stopped making them after a relatively short run. Also not so with the aforementioned fake bird.

I quite enjoy tofurkey - and if you get the pack with gravy, it's all the better.
That's the nature of subjective experience. Me, I think butterscotch is the nastiest flavor on this good earth. Whaddayagonnado?

18. Let's call this stuff what it is and what it isn't |
|
I went to a Chinese restaurant that was mainly vegetarian with a few chicken dishes on the menu. I went because I was one in a group of 4 and everyone else wanted to do this restaurant. (mind you, I really really dispise chinese food - there was talk of doing Japanese but the one girl insisted we couldn't go there cause she hated Japanese food so instead I had to suffer with Chinese food that I hate).
Anyhow, they got vegetarian Shrimp, Veggie Ham and Veggie Chicken. They're oooing and ahhing about how real it tastes and insisted I try it.
I'm sorry, I eat real shrimp and vegetarian shrimp tastes absolutely positively NOTHING like real shrimp. Let's call this what it really is which is some reconstituted wheat byproduct with flavorings added and molded into the shape of meat products.
That is all.

The Italian Deli variety recently, and it was quite good. I'd never tried a "fake lunch meat" before and it was better than I thought it would be.
Somebody around here has a Tofurkey avatar and that inspired me to try it. :)
I'll probably always prefer Gardenburgers, though.
