Bush bans ceremonies for dead US military
This is a rant from a libertarian site. I was shocked --- shocked -- to learn Shrub would do such a thing!

1. This story is getting more and more press....
And I hope it becomes a huge rallying cry. I cannot fully express in words my outrage over this - it has been a persuasive talking point for me in discussions about * with folks, but one I wish I didn't have nonetheless.

4. I posted at least 5 months ago about this very issue because
I read where CHENEY (don't have link) started this during the FIRST Gulf War. They didn't want anyone seeing coffins because they were afraid people would turn on the war.

I was shocked and outraged. Wish I could find my old post because I had a pic up of the dead British soldiers in flag-draped coffins and there was a big ceremony. I wanted to illustrate the difference on how our dead soldiers are handled vs. the Brits.

And, oh BTW, this was not changed during the Clinton administration.

14. this was not changed during the Clinton administration.
And how many dead soldiers came home during Clinton's terms. Not counting Somalia which was Bush 1's venture I don't think a single US soldier died while in combat under clinton.

17. I know, but I figured if the repugs bring this up, we must be informed.
In fact, I was going to say that it didn't matter during the Clinton administration bec there were no dead soldiers. Then I thought of Somalia and didn't know to be honest what when on there.

11. About that, they are short trumpeters so they send a boom box
That was in the news about 6 months ago. The local recruiter (they also notify the parents) takes a boom box out withthe offical version of "Taps" and plays it at the ceremony. CLassy huh?

12. Not The Burial
The Burial Ceremony is held by the family and scattered throughout the nation one at a time for local coverage only.

It's only the casualities---dead and wounded---that are being snuck in the US under cover of darkness so no one will photograph or count them.

15. Why is he surprised?
Out of sight, out of mind. They learned their lesson well during Vietnam: control the flow of information from the war zone.

Judging from the tone, Mr. Thompson probably voted for the sorry scumbag. It's too late for him to complain. If nothing else, Bush* has been consistent.

18. Want to be more shocked?
If a soldier is injured and ends up in a hospital in Germany or the US and ends up dying, s/he ISN'T COUNTED as a casualty.

Do you believe this shit?

20. What a bunch of low-life bastards!!!
I'm a Viet Nam Era veteran and I'm pissed something fierce. So they unload a deceased GI's coffin from the plane just like any other cargo and send it on its way just like a case of paper towels or a sack of mail. All just to protect their sleazy image. We need to start a recall process to send these slimey assholes packing. And Rummy wants to know if we are winning this war!?!?

23. this whole issue goes along with other "moves"
by these slimeballs...not counting as "dead" those who die over there due to "non-combat" reasons, like suicide, car accidents, etc. and NEVER, never giving out the number of wounded. They make me sick!
