he says it's a "great book", haha. I'll look for it

Here you go: Maybe you can get it at the library, hehe. It focuses on the February Revolution http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0295957654/qid=1115268232/sr=1-9/ref=sr_1_9/002-0173698-6846436?v=glance&s=books

4. Though they will be a bit biased in favor of themselves
Edited on Wed May-04-05 11:52 PM by lenidog
see if you can scrounge in a library "Memories" and "Prelude to Bolshevism" by Alexander Kerensky and "History of the Russian Revolution" by Leon Trotsky. Trotsky's book is still in print while Kenrensky's are not. Can't beat the perspective in a way of two people who were actually there. But take everything with a grain of salt. Especially when are talking about themselves.

8. Probably this one:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1564783545/002-1836087-2066414?v=glance
Viktor Shklovsky, A Sentimental Journey: Memoirs, 1917-1922
Twenty years ago, when I read this for a Soviet history class at Penn, it was nearly impossible to find. I think the professor had to put the few copies in the library in the Reserve Room for us. Shklovsky was an armored car driver during the revolution and a formalist writer and critic. The book kind of reads like Thomas Pynchon meets Ernest Hemingway, as I recall. Don't think you can find a better description of what the revolution was like on the ground.

Here's what George Kennan said, 50 years after the fact, but still: http://www.foreignaffairs.org/19671001faessay46101/george-f-kennan/the-russian-revolution-fifty-years-after-its-nature-and-consequences.html (also it's free)

Everybody else will most likely say John Reed, Ten Days That Shook the World...
