Will you people in the West take your coyotes back!
This has never been a problem here in Ohio. I thought coyotes were supposed to be howling at the moon from a cliff out west, not snatching dogs from Northerner's yards.

Officials Search For Coyote After It Snatches Dog From Yard

"The search for coyotes is on in Willoughby Hills after one resident said that one of the animals snatched her dog from her back yard.
She called 911 after seeing the Maltese in the coyote's mouth.

"I was calling to report my dog was just taken. I think by a coyote," the caller said.

Neighbor Shannon McLaughlin said she saw the coyotes in her yard, too.

"It was right on top of the hill, chasing deer," McLaughlin said.

McLaughlin's husband, Mike, said that the coyotes stared him right in the eye and didn't back down.

"The one I saw looked right at me. They're getting more bold," he said."

1. My cousin has had a few barn cats snatched.
Coyotes have been in central Ohio for as long as I can remember. There seems to be a lot more now, however.

2. We have them here in Tennessee too.
I won't let any of my dogs out near dawn or dusk alone, they always go out in pairs or more.

If we start getting mountian lions I will be concerned.

8. Yup, they are down here in Georgia, too.
They have been sighted in Buckhead, which is in Atlanta. And I saw a dead one on I-20 one time on the way to Alabama.

4. We have tons of them
and I have never heard of a dog snatched. Cats yes but never a dog. Until the mansions were built where the woods and pastures used to be we had a large family out in our back yard. They raised their young, played with the deer and they played every night with my dogs. They would come to the fence and the 3 dogs would bark, the coyotes would bark and the race was on. Back and forth along the fence. It was a hoot. If the dogs were not out the coyotes would sit out there and howl. I love coyotes, I would love to have them back.

10. It's because western cattlemen killed off the
wolf. Wolves kill coyotes, coyotes kill foxes-but wolves don't kill foxes. By killing off the top predator, coyote populations exploded and spread. Now they are taking over the niches that far less aggressive foxes once had (foxes don't kill dogs and cats-hell, most foxes are hardly bigger than a housecat)! Just another argument for not allowing special interests to screw with mother nature.

14. We've had coyotes for years...
in northern NJ and downstate NY. A few were even seen in the Bronx.

I was tied up in traffic for a while on I 78 when a pack of them had a good ol' time running back and forth across the road.
