Poll question: "Have a blessed day" - Yes or No?
Does it seem too religious when you hear this directed at you, even if it's with the best of intentions? Does it creep you out? Does it reaffirm your faith? Whaddaya think?

1. Could you please clarify the question?
Does a vote of "Yes" indicate that you do have a problem with the phrase, or just the opposite?

...on the inside: "Thanks for throwing your religion in my face, asshole."

4. Sure, why not?
It does creep me out a little bit, but I don't really have a problem with it.

6. Don't care. They're just being nice.
It's not as if someone is trying to convert me. I don't get mad when someone says "bless you" after I sneeze for the same reason.

7. I don't hear too many people use it, but if someone does
I say "thank you". I'm not going to spend my life getting offended because someone wished me a "blessed day" probably someone with the best of intentions. There are too many other things in this world to go ballistic over and that is not one of them.

8. As long as they don't hand me a Chick tract afterward
I really wouldn't care, I've got bigger fish to fry than to get pissed about a little thing like that. Honestly, I can't recall one time that anyone has ever said that to me.

9. I'm not sure what the question is supposed to be
but if someone takes the time to tell they hope my day is blessed I think that's pretty damn thoughtful.

19. I sometimes throw in a "Praise Allah" in the conversation just for effect
Usually where a "Thank God" would go. ("I finally found my wallet, praise Allah")

Always fun to check out the reaction. Yes, I'm easily amused.

13. it is always rude
It is never correct to impose one's religion on others, and lately I've noticed that people who use that phrase are not nice people. It is an intentional rudeness, meant to signal they are a fundy whackjob.

You can drive them mad and pretend not to notice anything though.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

22. I really don't think saying "Have a blessed day" is thoughtful.
Edited on Thu May-05-05 11:45 AM by SouthoftheBorderPaul
Thoughtful is "Have a nice day," "Have a GREAT day," "I hope you have the best day of your life today, really, man. Just go for it!" Any of the above phrases allows the speaker to feel like they imparted a nice message while the recipient feels like someone really cares how their day goes.

"Have a blessed day" sends the message that "Yes, I am a religious person and I am going to sprinkle a little of my love for my higher power on you." Of course, the speaker MUST know that some people will find this offensive but they say it regardless. They get their little religion jab in and they feel good about themselves regardless of YOUR reaction. I think it's impolite.

16. Depends on the situation.
If it were a professional situation, I'd think it highly unprofessional if someone interjected a religious phrase into a conversation. If it were my husband, I'd think he'd been bodysnatched and his soul replaced by an "other."

Whatever the situation, I'd probably say, "Thank you," and move on.

I took it as a positive wish---weirdly phrased, but positive.
It didn't bother me in the least.

21. I look at them like they are complete crazy and I stare for a few moments
Then I say, "Um... okay..." and I continue to look at them as though they have two heads while I leave.

I want to make sure they feel really uncomfortable. After all, they were kind enough to make me feel that way.

25. What they say: Have a blessed day. What they mean:
"Have a blessed day, Heathen - Pagan scum."

or, more tolerantly:

"I'm religious, how about you?"

At least that's what I hear.

Yeah... gotta say it creeps me out. What's wrong with "have a good day."

Reminds me of the whole talk radio bs attacking "happy holidays" as pagan, while "merry christmas" passes the Jesus litmus test.

Take your phony, put on, hypocritical, pharisee religion out of my face and shove it.

Which one of these two fictitious characters from The Handmaid's Tale is trying to infiltrate the Republic of Gilead?

A: "Blessed be the fruit."
B: "May the Lord open."
A: "The weather is pleasant today."
B: "Which I receive with fuckin' joy."
A: "Under His Eye."
B: "Yeah, man. Whatever."
