I'm downloading something called SmartFTP and I don't know |
|
what it's for, really.
I mean, I know it's for a website. But I am not really clear on what it does.
Can anyone tell me in simple, short, English sentences?

Stands for File Transfer Protocol.
It's essentially a way for files to be sent from one computer to another - probably most commonly used to transfer webpages that a person has developed on their computer to a hosting computer where they can be accessed by everyone surfing the web.

Thanks so much. I understood that. LOL.
Sure takes a while to download. And I have a new fast computer (at least that's what Mr. Bouncy told me).

5. you use to transfer files or the like from one place to another |
|
For example, downloading files off of a FTP server. I use something like that all the time when transfering files from my school account to my home computer. I use SSH instead of regular FTP though
