Poll question: Do You Go to the Movies Much? |
|
Okay, Hollywood is complaining about lackluster sales...well I would have to say that I actually don't frequent movie theaters much anymore and there are a few reasons.
1. They cost too much even if you go to the early-bird showings...$6 a person is still not cheap.
2. The rude people who go to the movies and talk with their buddies, talk on their phones and who kick my chair.
3. People with the monster TV's will patiently wait until they can rent it.
When it costs my family $34 to see just a movie...without buying popcorn.....I decide that it is far cheaper to wait for it to end up on video and I rent it or just buy it.
Now there are some films that just have to be seen on the big screen...and I do go see those but they are few and far between.
But let us take Sideways for instance, we waited for the video and we were glad we did, to pay $17 for the two of us and then pay $10/hr for a babysitter...I would have been really pissed off and asked the director for my money back. Having rented it for $2.99 ...I didn't feel so bad..

unless I think I will miss something of the atmosphere by watching it on tv (Like Star Wars III) or I REALLY can't wait. I just rent it. I mean it costs $6.50 to go to a matinee and don't even tlak to me about snacks. I mean what kinda BS is it that a 32 OZ coke costs $4.00.

2. If they'd put out stuff that people over 15 want to see |
|
maybe more people would be willing to pay $8 to see a movie.

3. I've seen the cost go up... |
|
At Century theatres here in Albuquerque since they opened about 6 years ago. Admission started at $7.75 and is now up to $9.75. That doesn't even include a drink or snack but I usually sneak those in anyway.
Needless to say, on my college budget (and they don't give student discounts), it's rare for me to go to that theater.
On the other hand, there is a local, indie theater that only costs $5 and always has interesting movies. I've been there a couple of times already this year.
