I have to say.....
Since I'm a part of the Gen Dean group on campus, I posted Generation Dean flyers on message boards around campus. I went by one of those flyers on my way to the computer lab and noticed that something red had been scrawled on them.

The message said "Don't vote for Dean, support Kucinich instead! Dean supports the death penalty"----and I was very offended that a Kucinich supporter had defaced the poster I had worked so hard to put up.

I guess I'm asking advice from you guys. How do I approach the head of the Kucinich group? I don't want to come off as a complainer, but there's this level of respect on campus for other groups' posters, except for the Republicans' posters. FYI, I'm at a women's college in MA, and 90% of the campus utterly detests Bush.

2. true...
I think Clinton just needs to shut up and move out of the limelight. It's time for him to stop letting his massive shadow fall across the presidential candidates in this race.

4. That strategy didn't work so well for Al...
...although, he DID win. There really shouldn't have been a doubt.

I say if the elephants can trot out Barbara Bush :puke:, we sure as hell can trot out our party's biggest recent success. I'd bring out Carter too. :-)

3. Try and avoid a double standard here....
"I don't want to come off as a complainer, but there's this level of respect on campus for other groups' posters, except for the Republicans' posters."

Well, I do sympathize, but at the risk of upsetting you I have to play Devil's advocate here. If some of you are not willing to respect the opinions and posters of the minority of conservatives at your school -- not that I'm implying that you're that way -- then there isn't really a whole lot you can do if someone from another candidate's camp wants to deface your signs, other than to put up new ones. What I'm saying is that you should simply prove that you're above that kind of crap by not turning it into a big brouhaha. I think that the sign defacers will tire of their little games quickly enough.

5. I don't know if there's anything you can do about it.
I would just go to the head of the Kucinich group and ask her to spread the word amongst her camp to be respectful of other points of view and not to deface posters. I see no harm in that and I'm sure she'll understand.

I think it's cool that people on your campus actually care about political issues. I must be on the most a-political campus in the country. Besides the handful of people in the college democrats and republicans nobody seems to care much about politics around here. The fellas in my dorm are more into partying than anything else.

8. Wright State University
Dayton, Ohio. It's about 60 miles north of Cincinnati. Isn't Smith one of those Ivy League schools?

9. well...technically...
Smith is a part of the Ivy League, but more of the Seven Sisters league....we're the sister school to Yale back when Yale wasn't co-ed.

10. I used to live in Northampton
Edited on Fri Oct-24-03 04:27 PM by BurtWorm
on Arnold Ave, right across from the library. It used to seem like yesterday, but it was actually 20 freakin' years ago! Holy shit! Anyway, I was there with my girlfriend right around Election 1984 when all the lefties were behind Jesse Jackson, bar none, and JJ had an actual chance because the Dems were so totally lackluster besides him. Or maybe he just seemed to because I was one radical in the midst of a sea of radicals. It seems soemwhat positive that the lefties have a little more choice these days.

PS: Welcome to DU!

Flame me if you wantbut seriously there is no way who could win a general election and frankly some of his ideas as WAY far out there.

It's Dean Kerry or Clark pick one and don't waste your time on the others.

13. Could easily be Republican dirty tricks
Ask the Kucinich people about it, but don't assume that it was one of them. Republicans have a grand tradition of dirty tricks like this.

14. hmmm
I seriously doubt it's the work of a Republican. The Republican Club here at Smith (which has like nine girls compared to the 800 members in the Democrats Club) knows not to muddy the waters here. I can't see Rove issuing a call to Republican Smithies to deface Dean supporters....
