Best movie watching experience
1986 Aliens

I was stationed at Osan Air Base, Korea. Team Spirit just ended and the theater was full of US Marines.

A good time was had by all.

Yours?

2. Barfly (1987)
I was living in Lexington, Kentucky and the only theater in the state that was likely to show this film was Lexington's Kentucky Theater. Unfortunately, the Kentucky had been badly damaged in a fire caused by a burglery to an adjacent building and was closed indefinitely for repairs.

I loved Bukowski, though, and was desperate to see Barfly.

So, my girlfriend and I, drunk on cheap burgandy, decided we would drive to New York to see this movie. A buddy, Curtis, showed up out of the blue and we asked him if he was up for the trip. Curtis has never been one to turn down a good road trip, so of course he said yes. We called up another buddy, George, and told him we were going to New York to see a movie.

"You in?" we asked.

George was in.

So, we all loaded up into my girlfriend's car and headed to New York to see Barfly. It took us about 12 hours to get there.

I can still feel the rush of the New York traffic as Curtis--fearless Curtis--navigated the city streets and found us a parking spot right on Park Ave. We bought a NY Times and found that the movie was showing at some small theater in the Village. A cop gave us directions and we found the place and I was delighted to see that there was a line down the block to buy tickets.

After the show ended, the audience burst into applause....

Well, there was more to the trip than all of this, but maybe you get the gist of it.

Yes, as movie experiences go, this was a damned good one.

4. The first time I saw Fight Club
I didn't even really want to see it. Thought it was gonna be some stupid action movie, knew nothing about the book or anything. Ended up becoming my all-time favourite.
