There's a sex offender in my trailer park
They told us they run background checks on everyone before we moved in. How did this happen? According to the state website, he likes little girls, 9 and 11 were his victims. Great...I have a nine year old daughter. One more damn reason why I need to move.

Yes, I realize that he has to live somewhere, but there are over 100 kids in this park. If they do background checks, and he's registered as a sex offender, how did he make it through??

1. Point the man out to your daughter
And tell her that he is not to be trusted and under no circumstances should she have a conversation with him let alone go into his home. I wish I had better advice, but like you said, the asshole has to live somewhere.

2. I showed her the pic on the web
I asked if she had ever seen him, she said she had not. He lives in the very back, we live at the front, so at least it's not like he's next door. I told her that if she sees him, she is to go the other direction, and that if he talks to her, she is to get an adult immediately. She knows that if anyone grabs her, she is to scream, kick, hit, etc. I don't let her outside unsupervised anyway, since she tends to wander, and she trusts people much too easily.

3. Sounds like you are doing a good job
Hopefully the time in prison has made the man think better and there'll be no trouble in the neighborhood, but you can't trust that he is reformed.

4. I'm sorry, but
this is one offense that I don't think you can be rehabilitated from. There is another one that is considered high risk within walking distance of the park. We got postcards in our mailboxes alerting us to him, but nothing on this guy. I check the website every now and then, and happened to find this new guy.

What has my panties in a twist is that if he was subjected to a background check, as we were, how does he live here? I'm thinking he may not be on the lease, so the owners don't know he's there.

19. We didn't get notified
we looked it up on the web site and found them. Bylaws here say everyone must be on the lease and must have a background check. Of course the new resident must pay for the back ground check. So I suggest the managers are pocketing the money and doing no check here

5. Just a thought,
You might call the parole dept and see if he is on parole and if so are there restrictions such as being within 100 feet of a playground. It may turn out that he is prohibited from living close to that many children. I don't know?

8. According to the website
He's on for 8 years. Don't know about restrictions though. Of course, there's no playground here, so he probably figures he's OK.

There is no telling what you will find if you contact his parole officer.

Uhh it's a trailer park. No offense but a trailer park isn't exactly a gated neighborhood.

This is a fairly nice park though, not like the shithole I lived in before this place. Supposedly, no felons...so :wtf:

12. No doubt
These greedy fuckers make a killing. Between trailers being rented, lots being rented by owners, and the store at the front, the dentist and his wife (the owners of the park) are not hurting for money.

26. I don't think gated neighborhoods check out their residents as

carefully as some trailer parks do. I've never lived in a trailer park myself so you're not stepping on my toes, but I've known some good people who lived in mobile home parks (the preferred term.) Some parks are very nice, like other neighborhoods.

10. True
I've done what I can to educate both kids on what to do if someone tries to grab them, or talk them into going off with them. It still scares the crap out of me.

...yes, in confinement. The rehabilitation rate for pedophiles is near zero. It sounds like you've done a good job instructing your daughter, but don't feel "un-P.C." about having a REAL problem with this guy living near you.

I hate the sex offender registry. Just keep them in jail if we can't trust them to rejoin society.

15. Ugh...
We've received a couple of notices of registered sex offenders in our neighborhood recently. Went to the website to try to find out how many they are... it costs $35 for a list of all in your zip code.

Thank you for posting the site. I have wondered how to check on this now that I am a mom. It turns out there are about 12 registered offenders in my zip code, only one of whom lives near me, but not in my neighborhood.

16. We have 100 + homes in this park
we have 3 convicted child molesters. I'll tell you how they get in. They have the money. They do criminal back ground checks here too. So if they have the down payment, they move in. I have a convicted felon living next door. Weapons and intimidations charges. no drivers licenses for life due to multiple DWI and one bad wreck where he almost killed someone. Theft and burglary. It's all about the money. The quickest way out for them is not to pay the rent/housepayment
Good luck!!!

22. I once posted here in the lounge that I was looking up people on there
And I got flamed for "invasion of privacy" from a bunch of Du'ers here..LOL. I couldn't believe it.
I think it is good to know your surroundings and if these pigs decide to take advantage of little children, then hell yeah! plaster their goddamn faces everywhere you can.

Now, looking up the values of people's houses on the appraisal district website probably IS, but ... sometimes curiosity just gets the better of me. Hey, they can find out mine if they want.

30. Look beyond this guy that lives in your neighborhood
I mean, at least you know he's there. Consider the fact that there could be others that you're not aware of that are living in park. If anything, knowing this has probably heighten your "mommy instincts" even more and it's a good segue to teaching to kids to be aware of their surroundings and avoid strangers.

It's an unfortunate fact but he has to live somewhere. ANd if he has done his time and is not in violation of parole, I'm not sure how he can be denied housing.

31. Have you warned your daughter never to trust anyone who asks

her if she can help him find his lost cat, asks if she'd like to see his dog's new puppies, etc.? Kids fall for the animal stories all the time, apparently.

On TV once, I saw a program abour protecting your kids in which it was demonstrated that a bright and well-informed boy of 11 or 12 not only opened the front door but allowed a stranger to walk through the house to the back yard when the man appeared at the front door with a story about his cat having run into their fenced back yard. This was just a demo for the parents, who were sitting in the studio, horrified that their son fell for such a trick. They thought they'd filled him in on not talking to strangers, etc., but didn't realize the "lost pet" trick was something they needed to warn him about. It wasn't something I knew about, either. I'm glad I'm not raising kids now; it seems more difficult if not actually more dangerous. :-(
