So, women are trashier than men? |
|
Edited on Tue May-10-05 12:58 PM by rene moon
It sure seems that way after reading the tat thread! :wtf:
How come nobody ever discusses the "trashy" things men do and it's always us women who have to deal with this shit.
I am so sick of it! I want off this planet!

9. I'm Lilith's descendent, not Eve's. |
|
Lilith is my ancestor, not Eve. I am descended from the 1st woman, the one made originally. The one that Adam was an equal of and so he went off bitching to god that she wouldn't let him rule over everything so she got kicked out and god made Eve to be ssecondary.

4. The way women look is fair game for unsolicited commentary |
|
...in a way it isn't for men.
Did you see the freakouts in that "Most Attractive Democratic Politician" thread? For some reason for some people it's OK to comment up and down on whether movie stars and the like look good or not, but the minute you bring SERIOUS people who discuss SERIOUS issues into it, and observe, "Hey, Senator so-and-so's a hottie" some people get their tighty-whities in a twist about how SHALLOW it is. (Of course, they were mostly men being discussed.)
Lots of strict rules for how women "should" look, varying widely by culture, class, and subculture, of course. Any woman who violates them (and since the rules are so different across different social circles it's inevitable even if she takes the time to figure out exactly what they are and tries to conform) can expect to be ragged on by judgemental types. And women are just as bad if not worse than men for judging other women this way.
Just remember, an insult from the "right" people is really a compliment. When you make an asshole mad, it means you're doing something right

30. That politician thread was bizzare |
|
And I would have expected far better from progressives.
Why is it that just because we're talking about powerful people their appearence is verboten as a topic? It's not as though we're going to switch our votes just because one guy looks hotter than another.
For the record I will happily compliment attractive women and attractive men - but if either is not keen, just give me a quick kick in the dangly bits (or preferably just tell me to stop).
There is a happy medium between how society treats men and how it treats women which is neither objectification, nor extreme prudery about physical beauty.

the "queer" posts equating bush's holding hands w/the arabguy & such & equating that w/ a lack of manly attributes is particularly repugnant.
some gays are tough, some heteros are weak; it's reactionary and rude to make these comments & is a display of the poster's ignorance & lack of empathy w/ our community.
likewise the comments on coulter's "masculine" appearance. i hold her in disdain for her lack of humanity & her prejudice; her appearance has no bearing whatsoever on my opinion of her.
our 1st female president, Eleanor Roosevelt, wasn't physically attractive, but i consider her to be a close tie w/ gandhi for being the most outstanding individual of the last century.
i KNOW the lounge is for relaxation, but it isn't fun to hurt our comrades. liberals should be more enlightened.

was making fun of HIM for doing something that seems "gay," given that he's so intolerant of homosexuals...they were just calling him the things HE would have called other men if he saw them holding hands.
See what I mean?
I don't think people here were bashing gays.

But I do know that cleaning the womans restroom in a public place is way way way more gross than cleaning the Mens room. Call it anecdotal evidence but women can be filthy and I don't mean that in sexual way.

but I have cleaned alot of bathrooms for both sexes, and never found that to be a general rule. In fact, the half dozen or so times I have had to clean up after somebody who blew chunks, they were all in men's bathrooms. Are you sure you are not hearing that anecdote from some male janitor who was freaked out by a used tampon? I am male, but not easily grossed out. After looking at my face in a mirror while I shave it is pretty hard for anything else to gross me out. As an explanation for your anecdotal evidence. You might consider that most kids of either sex are probably going into the women's room with their mothers. A trashed women's bathroom is perhaps the result of some three or four year old who made a mess their mother did not clean up. It is the kids making the mess rather than the women. That would explain why I have not found it to be true, because I am working at bars and factories rather than retail stores where there are more kids.

32. Um .... no not really |
|
Twenty years in the bar business with people coming up to me with bathroom problems and it is amazing what I have found, you are correct in both it has been bad but the worst of it by far has been in the Ladies room. It has Little to do with a tampon, they really cause very little problem in a bathroom. This is not second hand it is with my own two little eyes and cleaned up with my own two little hands.

35. another surprising thing |
|
I thought the bar bathrooms would be the worst, but I found the bathrooms in the factory to be worse than the bar (the exception being the rare times somebody puked (and I went about a year without ever seeing any, then we got a new manager and somebody was puking every Saturday night. I started to think I should get a $20 bonus when I had to clean that up.)) I think my brother told me the same thing you did about the Kmart bathrooms he was cleaning. Yet I have not found it to be true in the three places where I have cleaned bathrooms. Although in a youth center where I volunteered we let a six year old boy use the bathroom and after he got done there was crap all over him and all over the bathroom. Which is where I got the idea that kids can make some nasty messes.

I have children of my own and during potty training (this is where the boys were the worst) they could make quite a mess. We do not have many children where I work as it really is more of a bar than a restaurant

26. From one who worked in theme parks, I agree, it's because |
|
women generally take kids in with them, and usually multiple kids. Mom is busy peeing and kids go wild. 'I can do it myself!' helps make a mess too. Not to mention the menstruation issue, I have dropped a wrapper by accident, and didn't want to touch the floor to pick it up. (I have also been (as an employee) the one to put on gloves and pick up much worse than a wrapper from the same floor)
Now, I'm not saying it's okay, but I understand...

I have asked women in the bar how a woman can miss when they sit to pee but apparently there is a strange female ritual by which they do not sit in a public place. Add alcohol to this and it can make for strange messes

20. Haven't you ever heard of the double standard ? |
|
Too many people are threatened by a self sufficient intelligent woman.
Fortunately not everyone feels that way.
The tat thread is just one very clear example of the old double standard which sadly is still very much with us.

... to believe that to be considered as an equal in a man's world she would have to actually be smarter and more adept at the same task. It's not surprising about how some of us have evolved because of this double standard.

25. I believe that as long as mostly men are having the saying in politics |
|
it won't change. Women have come a long way since begin of the 20th century but we have still a long way ahead of us.
Part of the problem is I think also the raising. Boys and girls are being treated differently by their parents already. Not all but the majority.
